Once the outrigger table is sitting squarely on the edge of the sliding table, the Kipp lever mentioned previously can be pushed in, causing the securing bar circled in red to move outward and into a slot along the edge of the sliding table below the P-channel, then the Kipp lever can be turned, forcing the clamping bar upward, which in turn pulls the two hard plastic saddle mounts down against the P-channel squaring and securing the outrigger table to the sliding table.

Let's review how the outrigger table is secured to the sliding table. There is a Kipp lever where the outrigger table meets the sliding table. This Kipp lever can be rotated partially and pulled out or pushed in. The opposite side of this kip lever is a clamping bar on an eccentric cam which you can see in the next two photos.

The red circle in this photo calls out the clamping bar mentioned previously. The green circles call out hard plastic saddles that sit atop the prism edge (called the P-channel) of the sliding table, and register the outrigger table consistently square at two points of contact with the P-channel.

Spacewalk experts will use NASA replicas of sampling tools used during Apollo missions on the lunar surface. ESA wants to assess whether they are compatible with future exploration missions. Mobility constraints are part of the exercise.

Instructors, scientists and engineers go through the equipment they will be using from 20 to 24 of November 2017 during the first Pangaea-X test campaign

A dozen of experiments, 50 people and four space agencies will test their equipment and operational protocols during five days in five different locations.

This pioneering exercise is a continuation of ESA’s Pangaea geology training course in Lanzarote, Spain.
