The last five months (May-September 2023) required me to move a lot for a variety of professional and personal reasons. It was the first time in several years that I entered airplanes without carrying my DSLR camera. This resulted in me tinkering and thinking with my mobile phone camera, surpassing my snobbish attitude towards it as means of photographic expression. Visiting an old favourite antique store of mine, I was exposed to wallet-sized black and white pictures, very fashionable in the 1920s-1960s. Phenomenologically, I thought, these little pictures carried significance similar to the one carried by the myriads of photos nowadays stored on mobile phones. I tried to combine the sensory experience of black and white with the ease of mobile phone shooting, itself resembling certain types of pinhole cameras. Themes are the same as in my earlier photography: decayed and rusty patterns of disintegration, emptiness of spaces, outlier figures of the everyday, street signs and letters, nonhuman friends, naturecultures, and psychopolitically haunted scenes. Places include: Canada (Toronto), Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Alonnisos, Aghia, Larissa, Eleftheroupoli, Kavala), Scotland (Edinburgh), England (Manchester), France (Paris), Belgium (Brussels).
[Update] I have continued collecting such images throughout 2024. New places visited: Dublin, Rotterdam, Glasgow, Copenhagen, London, Stirling, Peebles, Amsterdam, Dundee, Madrid.

Next, if the crosscut fence isn't already positioned on the far side of the outrigger table, move the crosscut fence into this position, secure it to the outrigger table in the normal manner, and lock all the crosscut stops so they do not move. Don't forget to lock the telescoping extension if you have that item - it's locked via a Kipp lever on the underside of the telescoping extension.

In a time of fierce competition, CLEAN MOVES is a bridgehead for renewable mobility, a forum for open exchange.
When Jeremy went to Disneyland last year he wrote to tell me that it was full of mobility scooters and wheelchairs. He was not wrong. I set out to document the mobility scooters.

This scooter was spotted waiting for his faithful owner at the local pharmacy - ahem pub. Notice the lack of a Saint George's Cross on this hostelry, perhaps the patrons don't get so inebratied as to forget which country their getting inebriated in at this inn?

Now position the mobility card as shown (red circle) so that the pivot saddles of the cart are just in front of the corresponding hinge bars attached to the outrigger table frame. If the mobility cart has been assembled correctly, the pivot saddles should be high enough that the mating pivot bars must be elevated 25-30mm to get the saddles under them. You will be holding up the end of the outrigger table while at the same time moving the mobility cart with one foot under the hinge bars.

This got a bit of background airtime on local TV news in Oct 2014 because of long term wrangles about whether the site can have a new casino.
When setting up the cart initially, the pivot support saddles need to be height-adjusted such that the crosscut fence does NOT drag on the floor when the outrigger table is pivoted vertically. Make sure the technician sets this up properly during commissioning. Unless the saw chassis is put on some kind of platform that raises the feet off the floor by about 25mm minimum, you may not be able to get the mobility cart configured properly such that you can get the outrigger off the machine and not have the crosscut fence drag on the floor when pivoted upward into storage position.

For the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, "ART+COM" created an impressive installation that reflects a facet of mobility: an array of 100 white prosthetic hands each holding a small mirror and each rotating on its axis. The mirrors reflect a floodlight’s beam onto the wall across from them. At first, the points of light move about chaotically; then, they coalesce into the shape of the Chinese character meaning “mobility.” All the prosthetic hands in this spatial installation were manufactured at the production facilities of "Otto Bock", a leading developer and manufacturer of state-of-the-art prostheses. Each hand is attached to an individually controllable stepper motor, which makes it possible to smoothly control the movement of the points of light.

On a plane from Adelaide to Perth in Australia. The sociologist John Urry argues that, if sociology is to make a pertinent contribution to the global era, it must abandon its original aim--the study of society as a set of institutions--and focus on physical and virtual movement. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Urry_(sociologist) www.lancs.ac.uk/fass/sociology/cemore/
Andrew Marr's BBC programme 'Britain from the Air' is a realisation, using movement measurement of road, rail and air traffic plus energy and communication networks in which locations come second to movement between them.

The thinker I find most interesting on this theme alongside Urry, is John Adams, especially on the subject of hypermobility:

My blog is more about transhumance (humus - earth, ground) than nomadism - travelling 'to and fro' between places that are still communities where educated energy is being put into creating a sense of locality.

I, with my flying, occupy no moral high ground, when I argue for slower travel and the recovery of access by proximity rather than mobility and for escape from the effects of autodependency, especially the way our journeys blight our destinations. Perhaps we shall come to use virtual travel in cyberspace as a substitute for increasing our speed, while giving greater attention to cycling and walking as ways of recovering place.
The M5 A1 was introduced as a replacement for the M3 Light Tank. Its reliability and mobility was impressive and proved popular with the British crews, who affectionately referred to it as ''Honey'' a name by which it is widely known.
The principle improvements over the M3 were a larger turret with radio bulge, larger access hatches for the driver and co-driver, an improved mount for the 37mm gun and better vision devices. It was fast with good cross country performance although its main armament was considered inadequate and armour protection was poor.
The Stuart saw service with the British Army in North Africa, Burma and Europe. It was the first tank to be used by the U.S Forces in the Pacific and despite its shot comings was affective against all Japanese tanks. The flame throwing and anti- aircraft versions were particularly popular with attacking infantry.
