In Dutch it is called ‘Paarse dovenetel’, which suggests that the English ‘dead-nettle’ is a misunderstood Dutch ‘dode netel’, which is a netel that would not be alive, so maybe ‘purple archangel’ is the better English word for this plant (or Lamium purpureum as Linnaeus would have it).
It grows all year round and even makes flowers in mild winters such as ours these weeks, see photo. From next month March on, these flowers become an important source of proteins for the bees, while they are making their nests. It is always a special day, when you see the first bee of the year. The poor bees in our region are working hard on their comeback after the dark neonicotinoid-years that were almost fatal for their species, due to navigation problems caused by intoxication. Together with the maize and the sunflowers, the purple archangel helps them with their come-back. A bee that visited the flowers of this herb will have its red pollen in its hair and in this way you can see that the bee was there. So these little herbs are a blessing for the bees and therefore also for us, humans.

Two Temple Place is one of London's hidden architectural gems. Completed in 1895, this stunning neo-Gothic mansion was built for William Waldorf Astor. Originally known as the Astor Estate Office, it had a residential flat above the offices for Viscount Astor's use (Pevsner). It consists of two floors and a lower ground floor and is designed after the Early Elizabethan style. It is built entirely of Portland stone. The exterior stonework features splendid carvings by Nathaniel Hitch
Above the machicolated parapets is a weather vane, representing the caravel Santa Maria in which Columbus sailed to America. The intention was to symbolize the connection of the path of discovery of his ancestor John Jacob Astor and the linking of United States and Europe.It was executed by J. Starkie Gardner, the English metal worker, who was responsible for all metalwork inside and outside the building.
John Dibblee Crace, one of a family of interior decorators, decorated the interior of Two Temple Place for Astor in the style of French Renaissance from about 1892 to 1895.

Standing at the foot of the staircase, you understand why Astor felt “safe,” in the sense that you are entirely enclosed by the wood-lined room which permits no window to the outside world. Comprising a square stairwell, the space rises to an enclosed gallery with arches similar to those in engravings by Esher.
At each corner of the stairwell stand Astor’s favourite protagonists from novels – Hester Prynne, Rip Van Winkle, The Pathfinder and The Last of the Mohicans – characteristically, all are outsiders who are misunderstood. Above them is a Shakespearian frieze with eighty-two identifiable characters from Anthony & Cleopatra, Henry VIII, Othello and Macbeth, significantly chosen as plays that dramatise the torments of power. Yet, remarkably, the proportion and order of the space, the lustre of the materials and the expertise of the workmanship place everything in perspective – the chaos of human endeavour is reconciled within this sanctuary of the imagination.
Astor’s private office is equipped with both a secret door and discreet drawers for the storage of champagne, the latter hinting at a brighter side to his nature. Through the secret panel is the largest room in the building, known as The Great Hall or The Mediation Room, where Astor summoned those he chose to do business with. I was told that Pencil Cedar was chosen for the panelling in this room, emitting a relaxing aroma calculated to dispel any tension, yet such is the grandiose nature of the seventy-foot long hall, I doubt anyone would seek controversy in the face of its creator.
At either end, stained glass windows portray the rising and setting sun while the epic mahogany hammer-beam ceiling above is modelled upon the design of the roof in Middle Temple Hall, a wooden frieze depicts a mixture of personalities from history and myth, including Bismarck and Pocahontas, and characters from Ivanhoe perch upon the beams – gilded, just in case you might fail to notice them in the flurry of literary references. Once the time comes to leave, overwhelmed by the wealth of detail, your eye falls upon the Arthurian heroines by George Frampton languishing upon the rear of the door.

(I understand) I know what it's like to be misunderstood for being a free thinker but I have no idea what it would be like to be judged by the color of my skin, I can only imagine the frustration, can't help but wonder if God made the whole world B&W would we still be as judgemental?.... PENTAX-05 TOY LENS TELE 18mm f:8
The PENTAX Q "Toy lenses" are tiny manual-focus primes with a fixed aperture. They were rather misunderstood and never caught on. I think that's a pity. If one takes the trouble, they can give beautiful results. They are NOT toys, and are anything but simple to use well. As with any equipment, you have to recognise the possibilities and respect the limitations.
With its focal-length equivalent to that of a 100mm lens on 35mm film, the TOY LENS TELE makes a nice little portrait lens with a pleasingly soft rendition.
Middle Georgia. I was shooting with a client this day and one of his asks was this species with purple flowers. I'm glad it worked out. We spent relatively little time with this bird and had him singing on a redbud and an ornamental white flowering cherry too. We didn't try any of that until I found this bird quickly and easily took a fallen and slightly raised horizontal tree and scooted along it in nuthatch fashion as one might expect of this species. The bird is perched on a limb of that tree that is closest to the ground. The purple flowers were placed in their pots directly behind this perch. Very little playback was used but how it was used is the key or this would never be possible. Playback is so misunderstood and so often improperly used and overused. Such a beautiful species and an early arrival to middle Georgia.

“Christ died for all, so that those who live should not live for themselves, but for him who died for them” (2 Corinthians 5:15)
We hear the beatitudes quite often. We are taught them in our catechism classes, and we frequently hear them read at Mass. They are as familiar as milk in the fridge, but what are they? Technically, they are eight blessings that make up the Sermon on the Mount given by Jesus. They articulate simply the reward for a good action-a right choice. For example, there is a common phrase “that it is better to give then receive.” The proof of this statement is found in the action of giving. It is a choice, that begins with a “yes” to do it. Why else do parents surprise their children with gifts on Christmas morning. The blessings of the beatitudes work in a similar way. When we say “yes” to Jesus, to follow him and HIS way, the stage is set to receive the blessings. It is as simple as that. Of course, what sounds straightforward and easy, is never like that in reality.
The word beatitude comes from the word beatidudo which is Latin for blessedness. Each beatitude begins with the phrase “blessed are” which implies a state of peace, happiness and well-being. In Christ’s day it would have a meaning of “divine joy and perfect happiness. In addition there is an implied reward that all would be well in the future. Jesus’ intent is to bring a bit of the Kingdom of God on earth.
The action, on our part, is the decision to do a good thing, which comes first. Disciples of Christ understand this well.
When we say “Yes” to God, a space opens up in time…and a mystery unfolds in each and every moment of our lives. It is in this place that we have the potential to experience what our Gospel declares to us today. It is a unique experience for each of us. In our YES, in our experiencing and doing what Jesus does, we experience the “peace beyond understanding” which is the fruit of the Beatitudes. When we are given these graces, we recognize them…and ponder them in our heart.
Recently, I have read a book, called “Icon of Trust-Mary in the Gospels of Luke and John.” It follows Mary from her initial “Yes” and the many “Yes’s” flowing from her life as she shadows her Son.
“Mary’s childlike trust consists in giving a full yes to God — without knowing everything this yes implies. This complete yes is full of trust, not of detailed knowledge of what is to come.” “In front of God, she demonstrates the vigilance of someone ready to be surprised.”Mary is attentive, she is ready to say yes, and she is docile and humble in “ acknowledging the things she does not know and in trying to understand better the things she has already perceived and experienced; she is the perfect collaborator of God in the unfolding of His plan of salvation.”
I can remember my first “yes” to God. Since that first “yes”, I have learned that daily life consists of many yes’s. With each and every decision I make, big or small…that first “yes” becomes the context of all the yes’s that follow. My Christian walk, has been to follow Jesus. His gift of grace, which includes a peace beyond understanding, has accompanied me in the good and bad times of my life. In reflecting on my life, I can say that I have been blessed.
Brian Zahnd, a Christian author….paraphrases the beatitudes this way…
Blessed are those who are poor at being spiritual,
For the kingdom of heaven is well-suited for ordinary people.
Blessed are the depressed who mourn and grieve,
For they create space to encounter comfort from another.
Blessed are the gentle and trusting, who are not grasping and clutching,
For God will personally guarantee their share when heaven comes to earth.
Blessed are those who ache for the world to be made right,
For them the government of God is a dream come true.
Blessed are those who give mercy,
For they will get it back when they need it most.
Blessed are those who have a clean window in their soul,
For they will perceive God when and where others don’t.
Blessed are the bridge-builders in a war-torn world,
For they are God’s children working in the family business.
Blessed are those who are mocked and misunderstood for the right reasons,
For the kingdom of heaven comes to earth amidst such persecution.”

Conclusion
Often, in our Christian walk, we struggle to find words to articulate to others why we have found our way of life purposeful and meaningful. The beatitudes are a beautiful display of of proverbs that describe beautifully what the state and outcome of living a sacrificial life is. This way of life begins when we invite Jesus into our hearts. It is not an easy life living as a Christian in the world today. But the peace, we hold in our hearts is worth every right choice we make to follow HIM. The rewards are experienced by us in this life and the life to come.

Micro-contrast is one of the most misunderstood and misspresented terms in photography. It probably commes from the fact that it has very little to do with the contrast of image itself. Except, in the most cases, the lenses with very strong contrast will suffer to produce any microcontrast.
Anyway, the way I understand it, microcontrast is ability of lens to render smooth and fine transition from one tonal value to another. Let say, how many different shades of gray (or any other chroma) it renders.
For minialist and abstract monochrome photography this richness of transition is very important. It is the element that gives a feeling to a photo.
