You never know when you're gonna meet someone

And your whole wide world in a moment comes undone

You're just walking around and suddenly

Everything that you thought that you knew about love is gone

You find out it's all been wrong

And all my scars don't seem to matter anymore

'Cause they led me here to you

I know that it's gonna take some time

I've got to admit that the thought has crossed my mind

This might end up like it should

And I'm gonna say what I need to say

And hope to God that it don't scare you away

Don't wanna be misunderstood

But I'm starting to believe that this could be the start of something good

Everyone knows life has its ups and downs

One day you're on top of the world and one day you're the clown

Well I've been both enough to know

That you don't wanna get in the way when its working out

The way that it is right now

You see my heart I wear it on my sleeve

'Cause I just can't hide it anymore

I know that it's gonna take some time

I've got to admit that the thought has crossed my mind

This might end up like it should

And I'm gonna say what I need to say

And hope to God that it don't scare you away

Don't wanna be misunderstood

But I'm starting to believe that this could be the start...

'Cause I don't know where it's going

There's a part of me that loves not knowing

Just don't let it end before we begin

You never know when you're gonna meet someone

And your whole wide world in a moment comes undone

I know that it's gonna take some time

I've got to admit that the thought has crossed my mind

This might end up like it should

And I'm gonna say what I need to say

And hope to God that it don't scare you away

Don't wanna be misunderstood

But I'm starting to believe

Oh, I'm starting to believe that this could be the start of something good

Yeah, the start of something good

Yeah, the start of something good

Yeah this could be the start of something good

-------------------------------------------

Of all the Tuscan cities, Livorno is usually considered the most modern, although in its territory there are several historical, artistic and architectural testimonies that survived the massive bombings of the Second World War and subsequent reconstruction. It is famous for giving birth to prestigious personalities and great artists (Amedeo Modigliani, Pietro Mascagni, Giovanni Fattori, Piero Ciampi and many others).

The ditches of Livorno is a moat (not to be confused with a canal) which originally followed the perimeter of the fortified city and which, following the demolition of the ramparts, definitively lost its defensive function. The system of the ditches and canals of Livorno, although subject to numerous changes over the centuries, maintains much of its charm unchanged, so much so that, since 2002, its inclusion in the list of World Heritage Sites has been advocated .

In addition, tradition has it that Amedeo Modigliani, discouraged in 1909, misunderstood and derided by the city and his artist friends, decided to throw some of his sculptures in the Fosso Reale before returning to Paris, the city where he spent the rest of his days and where today he is buried in the Père-Lachaise cemetery.

In the stretch between the Market of provisions and the church of the Dutch in the early eighties, the works for their research were started, with the discovery of three heads, initially attributed to the master, but which then turned out to be resounding fakes.

Baby, do you understand me now

Sometimes I feel a little mad

Well, don't you know that no-one alive

Can always be an angel

When things go wrong I seem to be bad

I'm just a soul who's intentions are good

Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

If I seem edgy, I want you to know

That I never meant to take it out on you

Life has it's problems and I've got my share

And that's one thing I never meant to do

A week or so ago, I wrote about my favourite (endangered) Garry oak meadow. I wasn't very clear. As often happens, I was arguing from more than one place at once. A couple of commenters misunderstood me completely... and I don't blame them. I was pretty muddled. Here's what I was trying to say (and I'll try to be clearer).

Our world has reached a stage where hardly anything is "natural." Think about it. Try to name just one thing. It's nearly impossible, given how much we humans have altered the planet. Even the weather... which would seem the most natural thing of all... is so mucked up because of what we've done to the environment.

Last year, some scientists reported the results of their study of highrise window grime around Toronto. They found significant amounts of chemicals banned in North America for decades... presumably carrried here by atmospheric systems from less developed countries with fewer regulations.

More recently, I listened to a radio doc. in which a young Canadian recounted her experience living in China for a year. She tried to ride a bicycle and couldn't; couldn't breathe. Even walking, she said she sometimes vomited from the sheer thickness of the air pollution.

Tempting, when you hear that, to look around smugly at your own apparently wide-open spaces, and clean air, and pristine wilderness... but, no. It's not pristine. Nothing is any more. Because the whole broader global ecosystem has been altered in presumably irreversable ways.

And here's another anecdote to illustrate the point.

Some years ago, there was a massive fire in Yellowstone Park; it burned for weeks. It stymied all firefighting efforts and, at one point, someone said "Why not let it burn?" That's what would happen in nature, after all. Forest fires were part of the natural order of things... clearing out brush and dead wood and whatnot and making space for rejuvenated habitat.

But that only works within a natural system. And we ain't got one. Not any more. And no... I'm not despairing... just trying (not too successfully I fear) to make my argument that almost NOTHING is natural.

Living in houses? Driving cars? Using computers? Flying in planes? It's all way-out shit when you really stop and think about it.

Which makes rubber masks seem... well... if not natural, then certainly within the range of "normal" in today's world.

But... wait. There IS something natural left.

Love. Long may it reign. And may we some day reach a place where no one is judged or punished or ostracized for who they love. Because that's the most unnatural phenomenon of all.

During the colonial era in Africa, occupied by European nations, there were two Somalias. One located in what is known as the "Horn of Africa" and belonging to Italy, the so-called Italian Somalia. To the north of it, France colonized a small territory known as French Somalia, which when it gained independence from France was renamed Yibuti in French or Djibouti in Arabic. It is a little-known country, despite the great beauty and diversity of its landscapes. Plenty of desert, volcanic landscapes, slightly mountainous areas, landscapes of ancient volcanic lava flows mixed with arid or desert areas, extinct volcanoes, lakes like Lake Assal, the saltiest lake in the world, located 155 meters below sea level. Or an enormous variety of marine landscapes, mixed with volcanic landscapes and white sand beaches. Being such a small country, the variety of landscapes is immense; it's like a tiny representation of the entire planet concentrated in a small place. In the south of the country lies the Grand Bara Desert, a mixture of desert and extremely arid areas. The Grand Bara Desert was formed from the remains of dry lakebeds that were once lakes, and is now completely arid plains in central and southern Djibouti. In the south of the Grand Bara Desert lies the Goba'ad region and the Grand Bara Depression. The Goba'ad is a plain with narrow "wadi," the Arabic term used to refer to dry channels or ephemeral rivers that only have water during the two or three months of intense rainfall, typical of desert areas. In the south of the Grand Bara Desert, this occurs from late June to September... after which... the rain stops. Rainfall is scarce in Djibouti, and the interior of the country is very hot and dry, so most of the territory is desert or semi-desert. The Goba'ad is located between the Hanle Plain and Lake Abbe, the saltiest lake in the world. The Goba'ad plain and the arid depression of the Grand Bara separate the volcanic zone in this region from the arid zone. The volcanic part of the landscape is formed by extinct lava flows that flowed through these areas from the now-extinct northern volcanoes in past millennia. This clearly defines and clearly distinguishes both the arid and volcanic zones. During the rainy season, water flows across the divide between the two separate zones, or else it follows the path formed by the extinct volcanic lava flows, eroding them and transforming them into an increasingly smooth surface. In contrast, in the arid zone, the clay that makes up this area is poorly drained and sometimes water accumulates during the rainy season, giving rise to the ephemeral growth of some scattered grass or bushes... and very little else... rather little... little...

Nujabes was a Japanese musician and DJ, well-known in his country but somewhat less so abroad due to his short discography and his untimely death. His name was Jun Seba, a first and last name he combined, written in reverse order in Japanese, to create his own anagram: Nujabes. His music had a touch of melancholy and nostalgia. What I value most about him is his enormous ability and creativity to blend musical genres as distant as hip hop and jazz. I also liked the "character" Nujabes, especially his reflections on creativity and love. One of Nujabes's best-known songs is titled "Aruarian." This word has no translation into any language, nor is it officially recognized by the linguistic institutions that regulate the different languages of each country. However, it is included in so-called "urban dictionaries." The word was coined and invented by Nujabes in relation to his reflections on love. The word has a meaning that goes far beyond what is conventionally known as "love." The meaning of "Aruarian" is that of a very deep, almost instinctive connection with another person. A "cavernous love" that one feels for someone without any reason, logic, or motive. Once, reading an interview with Nujabes in a Japanese music magazine, I was surprised to read what he felt when he walked through Shibuya, a well-known area of Tokyo that is always crowded with people, bustling with activity, and fast metropolitan highways. He explained that when he walked through Shibuya, he felt like he was walking through a desert where there was nothing and no one. I suppose everyone who lives in large metropolises has experienced this feeling at some point: feeling surrounded by so many people and yet feeling so alone and misunderstood in life. From today on, these hundreds of square kilometers of the Grand Bara Desert will be called the Little Nujabes Desert. I don't think any Djiboutian would be bothered by a symbolic change of name for this small patch of desert, where there is nothing and no one. So Nujabes can continue wandering alone through these desert places in search of a "cavernous" and profound love, and sleep and rest forever. I'm not going to ask Google Maps to include this name on its satellite map... It's enough for me that it's called this way, in a unique and symbolic way for me... the "Little Nujabes Desert." In 2010, right in the Shibuya area of Tokyo, on one of its fast-moving metropolitan highways, Nujabes had a very serious traffic accident, dying at the age of 36... losing his life, his search for Aruarian, his walks through the Shibuya desert... and forever losing an entire life yet to be lived.

Robbie Junior looks confused. He misunderstood his mom’s instructions to use the tree as a vantage point to more easily locate the worms as instead pointing to the tree as the source of the worms. This is all part of the growing up experience. He will figure it out eventually. In the meantime he will continue searching for the elusive something. Possibly not quite as spiritually motivated as in "The River of Dreams" but nonetheless just as satisfying upon discovery. Perhaps even more so.

Baby, now that you've made up your mind

I'm gonna let you go

If that's what it takes to show love is blind

I gave you the best love you ever had

But it wasn't enough

So if you think you're so smart

Go and play with your heart

When you walk out the door

You'll realize what you never did before

A million to one – that's what it will be

A million to one – there's someone better than me

A million to one – no, you never will find

A million to one – another love like mine

Yeah, we chose our sides and I've been misunderstood

But every time I try to open your eyes

I'm damned and I'm no good

Day after day, you're further away, I can't take anymore

So it's time that you go

But I want you to know, I won't stand in your way

Deep in my heart I know, girl you're runnin' away

A million to one – that's what it will be

A million to one – there's someone better than me

A million to one – no, you never will find

A million to one – another love like mine

No matter what you do

It'll be too late, something good won't wait

Love is runnin' out on you

Here's a chance shot taken in the Alabama Hills During a New Moon with Mars being at it's closest to Earth during it's orbit around our solar system. It was a very misty night which has created a cool glow around the larger participants in the sky and the foreground was lit with a commonly misunderstood technique called Low-level-Lighting, or "LLL". This is "NOT" light painting. It is a constant light source that is dimmed down and diffused until it mimics moonlight/starlight when done correctly. "Light Painting" consists of several light bursts and movements, similar to how an artist paints with acrylics. Done at given times during the exposure it is much less consistent but can give some great results, but it also requires a lot of trial and error using up valuable time. An "LLL" lighting scenario is a matter of getting the lights set up, that way you can shoot away to your hearts content. It also allows for a series of images to be captured such as those required for a panorama.

I heard Wayne Pinkston coin this term on our last photoquest and I think that it nicely differentiates the differences between the two techniques. Here, there is a small mini lantern placed behind the arch about 10ft away, There is a second light source behind me to my left at about 45 degrees oblique to the subject at a distance of around 100ft away set to it's lowest setting with 2 handkerchiefs dimming and diffusing creating some depth with shadows. This is not really creating light but more like molding shadows to illuminate and shape your scene, much like a portrait photographer in his studio.

I'm Hoping that the "LLL" terminology is adopted and photographers start using it to more accurately describe their techniques. Have you ever run a Google search on "Light Painting"? Lots of pictures of people running around with flashlights and writing their names in the air. :/ What we are doing is definitely not light painting. :-)

Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great weekend!! :)

The sound of screaming followed by laughter could be heard through the amusement park. Some riding the roller coaster were screaming, some riding the merry-go-round were laughing-screaming (You know when you are screaming but it is more like a happy scream? I know you get it!)

Then, there is another type of screaming; The silent type. The one that is hidden deep within the dusted corners of your heart, numbed up by the mind that refuses to acknowledge it. Anger that turns into rage which ultimately explodes. Most do not understand how long it was bottled up that when it was time to address it, there was no chance to minimize the debris.

Being misunderstood is the saddest silent scream ever. When perceptions are made final with no room to understand that perhaps it is not just because she didn't like something, what if it was something she was constantly being given that she reached a boiling point and was fed up of accepting it, finally?!

Yet, they will say the same thing over and over again, "You hurt, you rage." Never looking deeper into the reason of "Why?"

A superb Album and title track... by Styx.

Earlier i uploaded a B/W version of this shot, but very rarely is anything B/W,

So i decided if that version hit a hundred faves i would upload this version,

Now i do not possess a Crystal Ball, not sure i would want too either, but the idea is appealing, just think, to be able to see whats coming up for us.....

It would undoubtedly change our persona our behaviour, and how we live our lives.

Seeing a colour version of a B/W shot changes our opinion of a subject, i believe, but the richness that colour brings to us is amazing, IE a B/W image of a Bower Bird would have to be extraordinary in its dynamism to surpass a colour image of the same bird, yet we still like black and white images...... Is the lean appearing more pronounced in the colour version?.. what is clear to me at any rate is that colour brings richness and variation to a situation or location.......now where is that ball, lets see how this compares.......

I wonder if the translation from B/W to colour will be translated or misunderstood and debated.

Either way, some things are an up hill struggle ! and difficult to look into, never mind through.

Watching me watching him.

Something incredibly special to me about these animals. They are so intelligent and probably misunderstood by many unless you spend a lot of time around them and watching them. I've been so lucky to have had the opportunities I've had with these animals.

This is another big boar that was downriver quite a ways from the camp area. We don't often see the big boars near camp. Which is probably good because then that allows the sows to bring their cubs into and near the camp area and they are safer that way.

I don't know how I'd react if I ever had the misfortune of witnessing a boar kill a cub. I think my heart would break in a million pieces but at the same, that is just the way of nature.

This opossum is, I believe (late in the breeding season for Texas), carrying babies in her pouch; a newborn baby is the size of a jellybean. She comes every night usually as the stray cats are finishing eating. Both cats and opossums get along together (in this instance), in fact, they will sometimes eat together at one of the bigger feeding bowls. I love having them hang in my garden as they eat snakes, snails, cockroaches, etc. They happily also eat cat food, boiled eggs (including shells), fruit and vegetables. Sadly, their lifespan is short, generally in this area, just 2-4 years. Many fall prey to predators or are killed on the roads. They are often so misunderstood.

According to legend, vocalist and keyboardist Doug Ingle wrote the song one evening after drinking a significant amount of wine. When he played it for drummer Ron Bushy, who was tasked with writing down the lyrics, Ingle's intoxicated speech caused the title to be completely misunderstood.

Bushy jotted down the phonetic mispronunciation he heard, and the band loved the way it sounded. The strange, mystical name perfectly matched the psychedelic rock sound of the song's now-legendary 17-minute jam session.

Formed in San Diego in 1966, Iron Butterfly and their landmark 1968 hit provided a dramatic, heavy sound that helped pave the way for the hard rock and heavy metal music that would follow.
