I don’t need a reason to appreciate this amazing planet but, I have been fortunate enough to find a way to appreciate it. Photography has been my pathway to some beautiful corners of the world and as a photographer I have come to appreciate that, often, the world can be it’s most spectacular when the weather is at it’s most unpleasant.

It was our last morning in Torres Del Paine national park. We would shortly be leaving to cross the border into Argentina and I was back at Lake Pehoe waiting for sunrise.

The weather was miserable. It was raining and the clouds were low and thick with Los Cuernos almost completely obscured. With sunrise almost gone I was sitting on a cliff underneath my rain jacket questioning my sanity when I started to see a slow break in the clouds.

Miserable is beautiful.

… Les Mis are sadly still awaiting their audience.

Many Thanks for all your views, faves and very kind comments.

Not all holidays go as planned. Somehow this year you find yourself alone at home. Your dinner sucks, your relationships are failing and those anti depressants don't seem to be working. Pull up a chair and join us at Tannenbaum for a Miserable Holiday...

CN 2423 leads train L501 under the signals at Paris as a torrential downpour takes place.

I followed 501 from Caledonia to Paris with this being my last shot at 0725.

Having CN brings handful of cowls back from the deadlines has been exciting but tough to get one leading...so I'll take it.

I still hear your voice, tryna rip my world to pieces

But I'm not your toy, you can break and leave there bleeding

The damage is done, moving on if I'm ready or not

But you drag me through mud, here I come now, I'm petty as fuck

A gloomy, rainy Monday on Chard High Street... in Somerset, England.

DON'T go there!

Illinois Central GP38-2 9624 was putzing around Cedar Rancid on a miserable day in 2004.

The weather was so crappy that the local ducks were just hanging around and taking in the sights and smells of town.

A man reading Hugo. By the time I got back to Amsterdam the Soviet tanks had rolled into Prague and hope seemed to be fading.

It's not easy being a fox parent. This mother has to provide for five kits.

This is not your typical dining experience.

You may not eat at all.

At first, you’ll feel vulnerable.

That’s necessary to become full.

You have to be receptive to the world. To people and experiences.

You must be ready to change yourself. To feast on possibilities.

The minutes add up.

For some, it is easier than others.

A few come back for seconds.

Yet, if you decide you can’t finish,

You’ll be more miserable than ever.

All your future food will taste like dust. The people you love most will dessert you while Your constant craving for companionship

Will fill your remaining days.

Sometimes, it is grueling to be alive

Just knowing we will die

Even more difficult, to love others.

Knowing they may die first.

I was wet and miserable and this tree swallow didn't seem too happy about the weather either.

This over weight gray squirrel can defeat both baffles. The feeders are five and a half feet from the railing. He can clear that in one jump.

Just a miserable little beach in Kauai

In what turned out to be an absolutely miserable day to be a conductor made for decent photos. MQT 2041 2104 roll up the yard lead in Ludington as freezing rain is coming down in buckets. The conductor in a full Carhartt get up was a complete sheet of ice that could hardly walk by the time he got to the office.

Not quite the sunrise I was hoping for this morning, the conditions where getting worse by the minute, shooting when it's windy and raining doesn't give you much time to set up your shot before the lens is covered in rain drops, however sometimes you just have to make the best of the conditions that are presented.

In the pouring rain, I was even more miserable....

On August 10, 2012 Bruce Gallagher and Darrell Quimby are into the last mile with a Simpson log train, nearing the dry-sort yard at Dayton. The other two SW1200s were on the rear as manned helpers assisting on the run up the hill from Shelton, though by this point one of the helpers had cut off to return to town.
