From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Common greenbottle" redirects here. This phrase may also refer to another species in the Lucilia genus, Lucilia caesar.

The common green bottle fly (Lucilia sericata) is a blowfly found in most areas of the world and is the most well-known of the numerous green bottle fly species. Its body is 10–14 mm (0.39–0.55 in) in length – slightly larger than a house fly – and has brilliant, metallic, blue-green or golden coloration with black markings. It has short, sparse, black bristles (setae) and three cross-grooves on the thorax. The wings are clear with light brown veins, and the legs and antennae are black. The larvae of the fly may be used for maggot therapy, are commonly used in forensic entomology, and can be the cause of myiasis in livestock and pets. The common green bottle fly emerges in the spring for mating.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bombus pascuorum, the common carder bee, is a species of bumblebee present in most of Europe in a wide variety of habitats such as meadows, pastures, waste ground, ditches and embankments, roads, and field margins, as well as gardens and parks in urban areas and forests and forest edges. It is similar in appearance to Bombus muscorum, and is replacing the species in Northern Britain.

I see these small colourful moths now and again but because of their size can't often get a photo as they are usually easily disturbed.

I was happy to get a photo of this one.

Have you ever taken a familiar trail and turned "right" instead of the usual "left"? I did today and found this "new" view of Granite Mountain while standing in Mint Wash.

Mint or mentha belongs to the Lamiaceae family, which contains around 15 to 20 plant species, including peppermint and spearmint. It is a popular herb that people can use fresh or dried in many dishes and infusions

An old-fashioned variety of mint. It's the mint that grew at my family home & which my dad used to make into wonderful mint sauce as he had the patience to chop the leaves very finely. So it reminds me of family & our traditional roast dinners on Sundays. I brought this plant from the original when I moved to my present home - a treasured memento.

Comparison with Melon, Peppermint and MSR.

The first thing I thought when I opened peppermint was "Fresh." She's very pretty! As far as observations go her coloring is cooler than Melon's. I'm Melon's second owner so I'm not sure if her hair color has shifted. My MSR's hair is showing evidence of it in the photo although it's barely perceivable in natural light. Nonetheless, the results of this photo surprised me. To my eye Mint's color is a shade lighter than MSR with a touch of Melon's color. A day time photo will follow soon. It's night here right now.
