The Osaka Mint Bureau is the head office for Japan's governmental agency which is directly responsible for such tasks as the minting of coin currency. But, perhaps the most intersting feature is that it is home to over 100 different varieties of cherry blossoms. The grounds are supposedly open to the public during weekdays, but when I went there didn't seem to be much going on.

The Mint Julep
I imagine to me a Mint Julep instantly evokes visions of Plantation Homes of old during the swelter of Summer, maybe a table underneath Spanish Moss-draped Live Oaks, and a glistening silver cup, beaded with sweat and garnished with an emerald sprig of mint. Ah, what could be more refreshing than that.
The Mint Julep Recipe
6 Fresh Mint Leaves
1 Tbsp Simple Syrup (See Note *)
2 oz. Bourbon (I like Maker's Mark)
Crushed Ice (See Note **)
Wooden Spoon
Rocks Glass (use a silver cup if you have one!)
Combine the mint and simple syrup in the bottom of the glass. Using the handle end of the spoon, smash the leaves into the simple syrup (muddle). Add the Bourbon, then the top with lots of crushed ice, stir, trying to keep the mint leaves on the bottom of the glass. Garnish with a sprig of mint and serve.
*Note - Simple Syrup is equal parts (by volume) water and sugar, cooked just until the sugar disolves. I make a 1 Cup batch and keep it in a squeeze bottle in the refrigerator.
**Note - It's important to use Crushed Ice, it keeps the mint on the bottom of the glass while you're sipping.

The Melbourne Mint, in Melbourne, Australia, was a branch of the British Royal Mint. Until 1916 it minted only gold sovereigns, and all Australian coins between 1927 and 1967. It is now the home of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria, and has been leased to the private sector since 2001.
The former Royal Mint is located on the corner of William and Latrobe Streets (280-318 William Street and 387-429 Latrobe Street) and is of architectural significance as one of the most impressive 19th century government buildings in Victoria, and one of few Australian buildings in the true Renaissance revival style, and a virtual copy of the Palazzo Vidoni-Caffarelli, attributed to Raphael, in Rome (1515).
The mint was built between 1869 and 1872 to the designs of architect J.J Clark whose other notable works included the Old Treasury Building, Melbourne. It was opened 12 June 1872.
The colorful coat of arms placed on the front gates in mid-twentieth century were by the Melbourne woodcarver Walter Langcake. The original design, based on Queen Victoria's coat of arms, is adapted especially for a British Royal Mint branch office in colonial Victoria. The supporting animals are not crowned and a maned horse replaces the usual unicorn.

Chocolate topped peppermints.
Recipe: mix one pasteurized egg white with enough icing sugar to make a stiff dough. Flavour with 8 drops of peppermint oil.
Roll small pieces of dough into balls and make a small depression in the top with the tip of your finger.
Fill a waxed paper cone with melted chocolate, and pipe chocolate buttons into the depressions on the mints. Allow to set and dry in a cool place for several hours, then transfer to lidded tins or jars.
Will keep for at least a week in a cool place.
