This mint just appeared in a pot with another plant (winter savory) - it must have self-seeded from who knows where. As mint has a reputation for spreading fast and pushing out any other plant that grows alongside it, I thought I had better separate it and put it in a pot of its own. I'm looking forward to using it in various ways over the summer!

Such a small little chap. Seen flying around the garden, but we have no mint!

One fifth of Bourbon

1 batch of fresh mint (typically the amount you can buy fresh in one package)

Simple Syrup

Infuse the bourbon with the mint for 12 to 24 hours. I've found that much more than 24 hours the mint starts to break down and get gross. Fill tall glass or silver julep cup with cracked ice. I prefer to allow guests to mix their own to their own tastes, but a good starting place would be bruise a spring or two of mint and place in glass, add a teaspoon of simple syrup, one or two shots of bourbon, and top with water. Another all-time favorite. Don't let newbies mix their own without making sure they use water. It can lead to beautiful girls making out with your creepy landlord if you don't keep an eye on things.

Look at all my little mint soldiers on top of my monitor. Only got a few more to go now to complete the set (full span of monitor). Can you help? - have YOU got a mint that differs from the ones pictured here?

One of the last wild flowers I found flowering this autumn. It grows in a wetland habitat. The crushed leaves give off a delightful minty aroma.

The castle-like mint building on Sussex Drive produced Canada's currencny for many decades. By 1960, there was already a need for a new facility. However it wasn't until 1976 when the Winnipeg mint opened. The Winnipeg facility now produces all currency for circulation, while the Ottawa mint now focuses solely on collector coins.

I juiced 4 oranges, added about a cup of mint extract (just mint I'd soaked in water for a few days in the icebox), and simple sugar made with organic sugar, to make 2 cups of fluid. I added 2 ounces of dark Bermuda rum to keep it from freezing too hard. Yum! Highly recommended.

Celebrating Derby Day in style!

My mint is starting to spread. It smells so fresh and yummy.

Mint in my garden. I brought some of this plant from my old home when I moved here. It's an old-fashioned variety & has a lovely flavour. My dad didn't cook, but always made mint sauce as he had the patience to chop the mint very finely.

Lauren gave me mint in exchange for the use of my cherry pitter.

This is me upon discovering that even if you smell something a lot, you can't use up the scent.

For Valentine's Day I made shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, london broil and peas with smoked bacon and mint as the main course, and we had Coldstone ice cream cake for dessert.
