I decided to build a backdrop against which to photograph some of my builds. The results were a bit small, but I figured they were good enough to be posted.

Weekly mining op for ice. In the picture the operation is just starting up. Two basilisks are in the background of picture 2 tanking the remaining rat in the ice-field. For security reasons the defence-force is not present in the pictures. Pictures 3 and 4 are an hour later - seconds before a mysterious raven warps into the belt flashing red. Panicked about a threat to my precious Orca I warp off to a safespot in short order, with the others laughing hard in the fleet chat when the raven fails to break the two basilisk's tank boost on their hulks. The raven shuffled off probably embarrassed.
These covers and backs to Desert Magazine ran for 4 issues (8 paintings) from June, 1960 thru September 1960. They did offer reproductions of each set of two for $2.85 postpaid on 14"x17" stock plus a 2" margin all the way round, with no lettering or folds. Sounded like a great deal to me. I'd love to find someone who has these for sale, but no luck so far.

Abandoned mines in the Comstock Lode, a lode of silver ore located under the eastern slope of Mount Davidson, a peak in the Virginia Range in Nevada. It was the first major discovery of silver ore in the United States.
After the discovery was made public in 1859, it sparked a silver rush of prospectors to the area, scrambling to stake their claims. Mining camps soon thrived in the vicinity, which became bustling centers of fabulous wealth, including Virginia City and Gold Hill. The Comstock Lode is notable not just for the immense fortunes it generated and the large role those fortunes had in the growth of Nevada and Frisco, but also for the advances in mining technology that it spurred, such as square set timbering and the Washoe process for extracting silver from ore. The mines declined after 1874, though underground mining continued into the 1920s, with sporadic efforts thereafter.
