Illegal mining is a major issue for COCOMOPOCA’s communities. Despite being granted a collective land title for 73,000 has., there are many illegal mines operating within the territory, and the State has done nothing to remove them. The mines contaminate the rivers, damage the land, and remove the communities’ main income source – panning for gold. Here, we travelled passed an illegal goldmine on the banks of the Capá river. This picture was taken in Lloró, Chocó department where SCIAF's partner is Diocese of Quibdó

Weekly mining op for ice. In the picture the operation is just starting up. Two basilisks are in the background of picture 2 tanking the remaining rat in the ice-field. For security reasons the defence-force is not present in the pictures. Pictures 3 and 4 are an hour later - seconds before a mysterious raven warps into the belt flashing red. Panicked about a threat to my precious Orca I warp off to a safespot in short order, with the others laughing hard in the fleet chat when the raven fails to break the two basilisk's tank boost on their hulks. The raven shuffled off probably embarrassed.

Flying over West Virginia for the first time on a Southwest Air flight to Newark (their new service). Saw these cut off mountains. I think this is evidence of mountaintop coal mining.
