Flying over West Virginia for the first time on a Southwest Air flight to Newark (their new service). Saw these cut off mountains. I think this is evidence of mountaintop coal mining.
Red cards for Rio Tinto's shareholders - as Serbians protest at the Rio Tinto office in Belgrade over the social, environmental, economic and cultural impact of the proposed Jadar mine in western Serbia. Locals from the Jadar Valley handed suitcases to Rio Tinto to symbolise their message that Rio Tinto should “pack their bags” because Jadar is not for sale.

The Meeting was attended by delegations from all D-8 member countries, namely, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Malaysia, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and the Republic of Turkey.

Protest rally called by Mining Dependents at Kranti Circle, KTC Panaji on 19.3.18. Supreme Court stopped all mining activities effective 16.3.18 after cancelling all mining permits. Navadeville mining area was once clear of tree's and these have grown since to surround this old building.
The National Mining Museum Scotland was created in 1984, to preserve the physical surface remains of Lady Victoria Colliery at Newtongrange, Midlothian, Scotland. The colliery, sunk by the Lothian Coal Company in 1890, came into production in 1894. It was nationalised in 1947 with the formation of the National Coal Board, and had closed in 1981

The Gibraltar mine rescue team takes part in the three-person First Aid drill, which saw them care for one man who was electrocuted and another that had his arm cut off in a conveyor belt accident.
