These are "granby" or "rocker" type cars which have a locking mechanism on the bottom which miners would step upon to turn the car on its side and release ore. A mucking car would shovel material into a rocker car and send it down the track, repeating the process with an empty car. The Hatcher Pass area is named after Robert Hatcher, a prospector that staked the first claim in the Talkeetna Mountains in 1906. The Independence Mine is now a state historical park in Hatcher Pass. The mine area encompassed 1350 acres with nearly a dozen miles in tunnels. After extracting $6 million in gold, the mine closed in 1951. Later, 271 acres of the former mine were donated to the state and made into the current historical park, with ongoing preservation efforts every year.

Salt mines in Sudbury. I liked this more in monochrome; the rig is pretty complex, so I think simplifying the colours and keeping the focus on the machinery and scale hopefully works.

These covers and backs to Desert Magazine ran for 4 issues (8 paintings) from June, 1960 thru September 1960. They did offer reproductions of each set of two for $2.85 postpaid on 14"x17" stock plus a 2" margin all the way round, with no lettering or folds. Sounded like a great deal to me. I'd love to find someone who has these for sale, but no luck so far.

Protest rally called by Mining Dependents at Kranti Circle, KTC Panaji on 19.3.18. Supreme Court stopped all mining activities effective 16.3.18 after cancelling all mining permits. Protestors blocked traffic from both bridges and other entry points to the city. As a last resort, protesters were Lathi charged around 3pm. Video youtu.be/CzaV1Hyr8Us

Royal Visit Mining Memorial Senghenydd

Some old rusty mining equipment strewn amongst the ruins of the old mining town of Alta, Colorado. This ghost town is located about 8 miles South of Telluride up a one lane gravel mountain road.

The old mining tailings line the edge of Holden from the days when it was a fully functioning mining village.

The plaque on this locomotive that is preserved in Lithgow reads:

Hunslet Loco

Restored in 1981 by the Rotary Club of Lithgow & placed in this park as part of Lithgow's history.

This loco was made in Scotland in 1951. Installed Hermitage Colliery hauling coal, Lithgow 1952.

Transfered to Lithgow Valley Colliery 1967, finished work 1969.

Capable of hauling a gross load of 130 tons on grade of 1:100.
