Pine Creek is located south of Darwin. The small town was founded when gold was discovered in the region in the 19th Century. A huge open cut gold mine has been filled with water and is now a deep lake. The town has an interesting collection of old mining equipment.
Protest rally called by Mining Dependents at Kranti Circle, KTC Panaji on 19.3.18. Supreme Court stopped all mining activities effective 16.3.18 after cancelling all mining permits. Protestors blocked traffic from both bridges and other entry points to the city. As a last resort, protestors were Lathi charged around 3pm. Video youtu.be/CzaV1Hyr8Us
Flying over West Virginia for the first time on a Southwest Air flight to Newark (their new service). Saw these cut off mountains. I think this is evidence of mountaintop coal mining.

This is now an old Russian mining town which is probably maintained by a dozen or so people. Mining stopped here long ago due to the cost and most of the buildings are derelict. It is still a popular place for tourists to visit and they still have a bar in operation if you want Vodka.
This series of pictures is taken in and around Røros. This little town was mainly built around the ongoing mining industry. That's now long gone, and society thrives, as far as we witnessed during the national constitution/independece day - May 17th.

The First Meeting of D-8 Working Group on Mining and Minerals (WGMM) was held in Bali, Indonesia, on 11-12 December 2008. The Meeting was attended by delegations from all D-8 member countries, namely, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Malaysia, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and the Republic of Turkey.
