Virginia City is a census-designated place (CDP) that is the county seat of Storey County, Nevada. It is part of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 855 at the 2010 Census.

Virginia City is one of the oldest established communities in Nevada. Like many cities and towns in the state, Virginia City was a mining boomtown; it appeared virtually overnight as a result of the Comstock Lode silver strike of 1859.

At its peak, Virginia City had a population of over 15,000 residents and was called the richest city in America. During the 20 years following the Comstock success "about $400 million was taken out of the ground." Most of the miners who came to the city were Cornish or Irish. In 1870, Asians were 7.6% of the population. When the Comstock Lode ran out in 1898, the city's population declined sharply.

Virginia City could be considered the "birthplace" of Mark Twain, as it was here in February 1863 that writer Samuel Clemens, then a reporter on the local Territorial Enterprise newspaper, first used his famous pen name.

Many locals work at the shops in town that cater to tourists, while others seek jobs in the surrounding cities. Virginia City draws over 2 million visitors per year and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In November 2017, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) held its second country dialogue on artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) in Geita, Tanzania.

The dialogue followed months of preparatory work with Tanzanian partners HakiMadani and MTL Consulting.

Participants spent two days visiting four-small-scale mines in Geita, one of Tanzania's main gold-producing regions. This was followed by two days in workshops discussing how to make ASM in Tanzania more sustainable.

Participants visited the Msisi gold mine, which is run by the local cooperative in Rwamgasa. Cooperatives are also known as SACCOS.

So the story goes from the guy with all these hidden treasures is that this is a stamping mill and according to him he had a partner at one time and the orginal mill deteriorated then with some help they rebuilt it. That's what he said anyway. Then something about a mine hole they had covered up whenthis old guy came up seen what they did and had a total fit. That's the way the story went.

Pictured here loads massive amounts of mining ore concentrate into the bellies of cargo ships.

I built this quite sometime ago, it was shortly after the first Power Miners sets were released whenever that was.

Anyway those sets inspired me to make this. I have never really built a wheeled vehicle before and I think its decent for a first try, though I will admit the blade on the front looks tacked on.

And a little tid bit you might like to know is the upper chassis is seperate from the axle/wheel assembly.

If you've never been in a mine, this picture should explain why behemoth and metal giant are terms that are entirely appropriate for mining trucks.

A little Legless Lizard that are often mistaken for a snake and killed. You can tell them apart by the long tail. A snake has a long body and short tail. Plus when these guys are provoked they try to "gallop", people sometimes mistake this for striking like a snake. You should have heard the girls in the office shrieking when we found it.

Abandoned mining operation - west of Eureka, Nevada. I asked around town about this mine, and looked online, but came up empty-handed on information. The white on the ground is snow.
