An Aussie beach holiday...

Testing out the "miniature" setting on the SX40 camera. It basically simulates a fake tilt-shifted look by keeping a narrow band of the picture in focus and blurring the rest. You can choose the width of the focused band and its position. I picked it to highlight the trees catching the last sunlight of the day in this image. This was just before the sun disappeared behind the mountains. This picture was taken at Air Bellows Overlook, so named for the wind that is typical for this area, and I believe the houses visible in the distance are Sparta, NC.

The tall building in the background is Burnett Plaza, completed in 1983. The foreground is an HVAC unit on top of a 6-story parking garage located about 10 blocks from Burnett Plaza.
