Finally reading the manual for the Canon PowerShot SX150 IS, I discovered a few more interesting effects and abilities.

This image was recorded using the miniature effect (or "fake tilt shift"), which really just blurs parts of the image. This probably wasn't the perfect scene to test it with. (No post-processing by me; this is what the camera recorded.)

These two guys were talking to each other, on the steps, but when I got my camera ready, they had walked away.

I used it for given a fun second life to some of my old photos :)

simulating tilt-shift effects. Saturation is raised and three degrees of blur added to top and bottom. Strong vertical lines and this effect don't mix well, as you can see, but usually the effect is better than this example.

In a real tilt-shift photograph the change in blur would be more of a gradient rather than just 3 steps, but that's maybe a lot to ask the little processor in this pocket camera to do on the fly.

check out another shot that looks a bit better.

I think the effect is best with cars and people in the shot - buildings alone don't really look great.

This is a very typical scene on the Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok. In fact this is quiet compared to the rush hour.

My first panorama attempt.

Using the miniature effect for shooting hasn't been a good idea..

was going through some recent shots of the lighthouse and realized that this one would be fun to "tilt shift", i really like how it turned out and after all the work it took to get the colors right, i am really happy with this one
