Millennials in Massachusetts are already demonstrating their civic impact by working at the local, state, and federal levels to create change in their communities. The Institute brought young leaders together to discuss how their generation is defining civic engagement, the value and importance of public service, and what political activism means for up-and-coming thought leaders.

Each Post-It note on the Silver Lariat dome window is a phrase that describes something about our generation.
As the millennial celebrations of 1896 approached, the nation's demand for representation channelled the conception of a unique Parliament building. The Palace of Westminster in part inspired the design, but a well-known Hungarian architect, Imre Steindl, laid out the plans in their entirety. The building stretches 268 meters in its length, along the Danube embankment. Ornamented with white neo-gothic turrets and arches, it forms the most outstanding landmark of the Pest side horizon. Statues of Hungarian monarchs and military commanders decorate the outer walls. The unique interior design includes huge halls, over 12,5 miles of corridors, a 96-meter high central dome, and 691 rooms. When the Parliament is not in session, all these can be visited.

More and more millennials are taking to the streets to demand action on climate change, but not action on America’s national debt and deficits — another major long-term problem that carries enormous risks to future generations. What’s behind the difference in millennial attitudes towards these two threats, and how do we get younger generations of Americans to demand long-term fiscal solvency?
On October 22, the Brookings Institution and the Millennial Action Project (MAP) explored this paradox by reviewing generational differences in attitudes to the challenges of climate change and national debt and deficits. Both discussed with scholars and Millennial members of congress survey evidence and techniques for engaging millennials on major issues, and the lessons for policymakers, journalists, and others seeking to generate support among younger Americans for tackling big, long-term problems.

Generation Hack is different from the Millennial generation. They are the opposites or extreme versions of Millennials. They wish their hobby would turn into a full-time job. They are mature and in control. They would rather save money than spend it. They are determined to “make a difference” and “make an impact.” Social entrepreneurship is one of the most popular career choices for them, as they intend to change the world.

Loved presenting at the ICCTE Conference at Trinity Christian College. This topic is one I care about deeply...so often millennials are painted as "digital natives" who are so super-tech-savvy...but my research (and experience) indicates that they are not really all that savvy when it comes to *teaching* and *learning* with technology. As a teacher educator, this weighs on me; they are expected to be leaders when it comes to tech integration, but how ready are they to lead? Just because you love your cell phone and your social media does NOT mean you know how to leverage them for learning in a formal educational setting.
