Solo: A Star Wars Story, or simply Solo, is a 2018 American space Western film based on the Star Wars character Han Solo. Directed by Ron Howard, it was produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the second Star Wars anthology film following 2016's Rogue One. The plot takes place over ten years prior to the events of A New Hope, and explores the early adventures of Han Solo and Chewbacca, as the pair are involved in a heist within the criminal underworld and meet a young Lando Calrissian. The film stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, alongside Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, and Paul Bettany.
George Lucas began development on the film in 2012. He commissioned Lawrence Kasdan to write the screenplay, which was completed by his son Jonathan after Kasdan was hired to write Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Principal photography began in January 2017 at Pinewood Studios, under the direction of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The pair left the project in June 2017 after reportedly being fired over "creative differences" with Lucasfilm, and Howard took over directing duties. With an estimated production budget of around $275 million, it is one of the most expensive films ever made. Having grossed over $388 million worldwide, it is considered the first Star Wars film to be deemed a box office bomb, with estimated losses for Disney of up to $80 million; it will need to gross at least $500 million to break even.
The film had its world premiere in Los Angeles on May 10, 2018, and also screened on May 15 at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, before its United States release on May 25, 2018 in RealD 3D, IMAX and IMAX 3D. It received generally favorable reviews from critics, with praise for the cast (particularly Ehrenreich and Glover), visuals and action sequences, although many noted that the film added "nothing new" to the Star Wars franchise.

🔗 Thanks for the link back love when sharing! :)
A detail from a Star Wars illustration which I did circa 1977 (6 yrs. old), as part of my infatuation with the movie release. I find it interesting that I interpreted Chewbacca's voice as "Grunk." If you look closely Han Solo is saying "Come On Artoo!"
I don't know who was supposed to be next to Han Solo (on the right) but I guess I changed my mind and erased the entity.
This is a closeup from a larger illustration of R2D2, which is also in my photostream somewhere.

This baby was HUGE. It was a 16" round plus the rest of the ship - so about 23 inches long. We had it up off the board about 4 inches, so it looked like it was flying. It was really fun to make and for once, I'd like to do it again! Usually, when I finish one of these big ones, I'm like "I hope no one ever orders this again!" But I could do Millenium Falcon cakes all day long!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ... before Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, an unsung hero encountered Darth Maul in a dawn battle.
Ok, I have a seriously warped imagination. This shot has been planned in my head for probably about 2 months, closer to 3 actually since I was still in my old job when I started pulling the props together. I have been holding off for a few reasons .. primarily I didn't want to resort to Danbo as a subject for my 365 too often, it is not the reason I embarked on the project.
Secondly, this has to be the most ambitious shot I have set up and took a lot of effort to get the lighting "right" as I imagined it. In the end it took 3 torches, the first of which placed on top of a stack of old business cards, the second perched on my oil heater, the third hand helded and some blind shooting with a remote to achieve this.
Some 60 odd takes later, this is the result. Danbo facing off a Sith on in an unknown location. But is that starship's profile vaguely familiar? An undocumented battle ... what really happened?
Oh yeah in between takes I had my dinner of Albóndigas on the stove without the liquid boiling over or burning. :)
