There is a story behind this picture. About 250 miles behind this picture, more or less. Right now I have to explain the lines for portapotties - kybos - was long at every stop. I mean cross-your-eyes and clench your midsection long. So the default option was to pull off the road and find relief in the nearest cornfield. Though I read this was frowned upon, tall rows provided the perfect screen and *everybody* did it. Here a farmer simply capitulated, raised a white flag and put out the welcome mat, so to speak.

There are two primary ways to increase your vertical leap: strengthening your legs and reducing your overall weight. The calf muscles are the body’s main engines for jumping, making them the major target for strengthening. A number of possible exercises and additions to your daily routine can be implemented to improve leg strength and burn body fat, but don’t expect to get anywhere without dedication.
Stationary jumps
Whenever you’re trying to get better at an activity, practicing that activity is usually a smart way to start. So, when trying to increase your vertical leap, begin by performing sets of stationary jumps. Standing in place on a flat surface, perform a series of normal jumps for between ten and twenty repetitions. Try to jump as high as you can on each repetition and make sure you jump off of your toes. As soon as your toes hit the floor, jump again quickly.
You could also perform box jumps, in which you repeatedly jump onto a stable stationary box or another solid even surface. Don’t try to do box jumps right away unless you are already in at least decent physical condition.
Squats
The motion of a squat almost mimics the motion of a jump. Squats target the entire lower body, working the midsection, thighs, and calves. While maintaining good posture, just as its name implies, bring yourself from a standing position to a squatting position, then lift back into the set position; this is one repetition. Squats can be performed with or without free weights. Once you are comfortable performing a simple squat, add some weight to it by holding a barbell across your upper back during your workout.
Suicide Leap
Not the lethal version – the sprinting exercise. Running suicides is a very common exercise in basketball among coaches and strength trainers because of its ability to strengthen just about every muscle in the legs. To run suicides, begin at a baseline on an athletic court, track, or sidewalk. Sprint about 15 feet out, touch the ground with your fingertips, then sprint back to the baseline. Next, sprint about 30 feet out, touch the ground and head back to the baseline. Repeat this process at 45 feet, 60 feet, 75 feet, and 90 feet to complete a full set. On a basketball court, you might start by sprinting to the free throw line, then the quarter-court mark, half-court, three-quarter court, the opposite free throw line, and finally the opposite baseline.
Easing the Burden
If your legs have less to carry, they will be able to lift you higher. Losing body fat can be the fastest way to increase your vertical leap if you are overweight. Try to expend between 200 and 400 calories more than you take in each day. Measuring what you take in is the easy part; simply read the nutrition facts of what you are eating (and stick to the serving size).
Calculating how many calories you burn is a little trickier. The average 175-pound person with a low activity level expends about 2000 calories per day. As you increase weight and activity, calories expended increase as well. You can make some simple changes to your lifestyle to increase your general activity level such as getting up and walking around every once in awhile and taking the stairs instead of the elevator/escalator. Working out four or five times per week while maintaining a reasonably balanced diet is really the only way to get desired results.

Among the exhibits at the Custom House Museum in Key West are artifacts pertaining to the explosion on the battleship Maine.
According to the informational signage:
Explosion on the Maine
On February 15, 1898, at 9:40 P.M., while drifting peacefully in Havana Harbor, the Maine was rocked by a terrible explosion. The discharge caused violent damage to the forward and midsections of the battleship. The Maine sank to the harbor floor in 15 minutes. During this short period of time, 260 crew members of the battleship perished by drowning or injuries caused by the explosions and fire. Eventually, the loss of life related to this great naval disaster would reach 266 officers and men. The greatest damage, by explosion, was to the forward section of the ship where the sailors and crew members had retired for the evening. Although some of the crew were blown out of the sleeping quarters alive and suffered only minor injuries, most of the deadly casualties occurred in this area.
Four officers of the battleship were on shore during the explosions. Other officers were on duty or resting in the aft section of the vessel and escaped injury. There were two officers that drowned that evening. Altogether, the crew of the Maine was made up of 354 officers and men.

This April 18, 2012 photo shows a view from Li River near Guilin, China. A search for iconic China often takes tourists to the Great Wall in the north and the archaeological pits of the terra-cotta warriors in the nation's midsection. But for a glimpse of China's natural beauty, take the trip south to the city of Guilin, and board a boat for a four-hour cruise down the Li River to the picturesque city of Yangshuo, nestled amid the limestone karst hills known as the gumdrop mountains. Consider Muscat if you want a really interesting place to spend your holiday. Muscat is definitely the investment capital of Oman, an emerging vacation destination about the Arabian Peninsula. Muscat has one thing for all. There are historical websites, wonderful beaches, electricity filled entertainment and access to adventures inside the desert. Watersports is really what sets Oman aside from other Midsection Eastern nations. Developing a coastline in the Gulf of Oman as well as the Straits of Hormuz tends to make Oman special in between Eastern side and permits Oman to supply possibilities for skating, angling, diving and a number of other watersports. It's exactly what makes Muscat holidays genuinely exclusive.more information see this (German:

2-7 Sculpt update on the bounty hunters Skorr and his sidekick, Gribbet. - From the Archie Goodwin, Al Williamson comic series, Star Wars: The Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell. 1:18 scale.
Skorr is looking more and more like the Ord Mantell gunsligner I've pictured him to be. I finished sculpting the lower arms and midsection. The illustrations of Skoor shows the sleeves of his short cloak/coat hang lower than what I have sculpted. I sculpted them shorter so the figure doesn't look ridiculous when the arms are lowered. Having a static piece of sleeve jutting out the back of the arms would look silly. LOL! One of the limits to sculpting instead of using soft goods.
The midsection is to give continuity to the outfit once the upper torso is fully sculpted...so much of this will be overlapped.
For Gribbet, the initial head is compete and a cast replaces the master sculpt. I'm working on an alternate head sculpt that will be shown soon. Right now, it's all about the upper torso and waist. I want to also replace the hands with some slimmer, gloved hands.
More to come on this set as progress is made

Five columns are meant to represent FDR’s New Deal, depicted as rolls of an industrial printing press. The negative images are shown wrapped around the columns and then “imprinted” on the wall to your left as bronze reliefs. The images show different New Deal programs that FDR enacted to help the United States out of the Great Depression. These tactile reliefs are meant to be interactive for the blind and include Braille captions throughout. Unfortunately, many of the Braille captions are illegible due to misplacement high on the sculpture and the incorrect spacing of the dots.
The Detail
A multitude of new deal efforts are further memorialized in this chamber in the form of a thirty-foot-long bronze mural by Robert Graham.
Robert Graham began his study for the Social Programs mural by doing intensive research on the new deal. He chose fifty-four programs to depict and then look for images to graphically symbolize the essence of each. Thus, for example, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) is symbolized by two workers planting a ponderosa pine seedling, and the Farm Security Administration (FSA), by a farmer driving a tractor.
The mural consists of realistic images as well as writing, braille, and a background of the hands and faces of workers. The mural depicts the efforts of many of the innovative programs—the CCC, the WPA, the TVA, the FSA, labor relations, social security—which elevated the country from the quagmire into which it had sunk. These social programs, sometimes called the alphabet programs (because of the acronyms which referred to them), were the New Deal solutions which were developed to enable people to pull themselves up from the depths of despair.
The next step for sculptor Graham was to establish an overall format for the mural that would organize all of the images. Graham used a grade of photographs as a way to study this issue. The result is a matrix based on a twelve-by-twelve-inch grid of squares overlaid on five 6-by-6-foot panels. One panel contains thirty-six 12-inch squares, two panels contain nine 24-inch squares, and two panels contain four 36-inch squares. Within this geometry, the mural allows for a series of variations within an overall order.
Robert Graham
Born in Mexico, Robert Graham came to the United States in 1950 when he was twelve years old. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, where the great muralist Diego Rivera had taught.
Since the 1970s, Graham’s sculptures have shifted from beautiful, small, gallery-sized environments the large monument-scale civic works such as the gateway figures at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and the Duke Ellington Memorial in New York’s Central Park.
Bob works primarily in bronze and has his own foundry where he often casts his pieces with his production team. This workshop approach to the making of art is very reminiscent of Renaissance artists and has allowed him to experiment and explore new materials and casting techniques. Masterful draftsmanship of the human form, innovative casting techniques, and an appreciation of architecture as an art of spaces as well as of forms have allowed Bob Graham to envision his sculptures as part of an expanded public life.
Graham’s murals sympathetically evoke the Works Progress Administration murals of the new deal. The WPA funded highly creative, unemployed artists to work on government buildings. The murals, which often depict workers engaged in their labor, enrich the quality of post office is, libraries, and other civic buildings. Other innovative programs created jobs for writers, photographers, actors, musicians, and dancers. By supporting these individuals, the WPA promoted a remarkable efflorescence of the arts and gave these talented Americans a great sense of useful participation in the country’s recovery.
In addition to the mural itself, Graham devised an innovative method of revealing the casting process and further exploring the images. Five bronze cylinders stand free from the wall and contained the negative images of the five panels on the large wall. A viewer can imagine these cylinder seals rolled on the clay to make the positive images on the murals affixed to the wall. And, as a metaphor, the viewer can imagine the positive, practical results produced by these alphabet agencies.
Day 4 of the 365 days of me challenge.
This past dreadie month has the best yet. Yes, granted, I only have 3 to choose from, lol, but all the same...
I fell in love with them on a daily basis.
I am loving
the crooked awkwardness
the loose midsections that mistakenly seem weak
the upheaval of strays that deceptively imply destruction
the soft pieces that fall in the front, apart from the rest
the textures, the scents, the feelings they stir up in my very soul
the parallels that exist between life and dreads ...
They are part of me.
A large 13th Century gothic castle, first mentioned in 1350, which was destroyed in Bohemian-Hungarian wars in the 15th Century. It was a quite large castle complex with triple configuration - a large and long bailey, three main trechnes, a midsection and a separate core. The disposition is still well visible, a path follows the first trench around the bailey, through the second and third trench up to the core. Two drawbridges isolated the core, which was otherwise surrounded by inaccessible steep rocks. It´s well walkable and very popular by tourists.

Year and architect unknown. Looks like the architect made a carbon copy of the Chilco Towers for the midsection of the building then added two less-inspired wings.
At 125 ft. This is the same guy I photographed 3 weeks ago, recognizable by the missing upper quarter of his tail fin midsection--someone bit it off, most likely.
(The line of dots bottom right are people. Gives you an idea of just how massive the glacier is)
Fox Glacier, one of the few glaciers in the world that practically come down to sea level and ends in a rainforest. Few glaciers are this easily reachable. The most common way is a short helicopter ride onto the more stable midsection, a huge constantly moving field of ice with chunks as large as houses. It has been retreating for most of the last 100 years, a pattern that increased significantly after 2009
Impressions of a country garden--trellis, flowers...even butterflies and bees give this small entry wall some color panache! Can you find the dragonfly, too?

We watched folks wrapping their midsections in long scarves, which are important for support and as climbing help. Girls braided each others' hair. It was cool to see how anyone could play a part (young, old, all sizes and shapes). And the teams helped each other - the scrum at the base of each tower was made by a huge group of castellers from all three teams pushing in and up on the lowest level folks.

McGundam: original LEGO creation by Baron von Brunk. This is a bizarre, disturbing creation I've built which blends the imagery of Ronald McDonald with the demonic Devil Gundam from the infamous anime series Mobile Fighter G Gundam. The main focal point of this build is the massive Ronald head for its midsection, which has the appendages sprouting from it to form a mechanical beast.
After conceptualizing the project, the eventual engineering aspect would undergo several changes for structural purposes. In other words, the size and articulation was frequently adjusted, since the heavy weight constantly made the project topple over and break. Extra joints were added to weak spots, which unfortunately limited its range of motion. It was also intended to be much taller, too, but was too large to stand on its own weight. Another thing to point out was that the feet originally had more motion and were intended to rotate for action poses, but sadly had to have their articulation simplified to prevent the whole model from toppling over.
When building this project, I started with the giant Ronald head first, so that I could share the head as a teaser photo on social media. Next I built the legs and feet, before finalizing the chest, head, and spinal section. During tests I had to constantly amend the design and either add or remove sections due to aforementioned weight/stability issues. The spinal column was supposed to be much longer and narrower – like a serpent – but had to be shortened and reinforced with Hero Factory parts to make sturdier.
Shooting the photos was also very difficult since the project was having trouble standing upright without falling over, and pieces constantly kept falling off and breaking. Too much of the details and greebling meant that when the appendages would wobble during photo shoots, the pieces would immediately come off and roll off the table, and then require lots of repairs.
