Yay! I fit into skinny jeans again! I am so happy! I still have more work to do (a lot more work to do) on my midsection, upper body, lower body, etc., but at least I fit into skinny jeans again! Just a short time ago I tried these same jeans on in the store and getting my body into these jeans was like trying to get tooth paste back into the tube.
Did I mention how happy I am that I fit into skinny jeans again!
Day 362 of 365.
3 days and counting...
On the Queen Mary
From www.immortalchaplains.org:
"A convoy of three ships and three escorting Coast Guard cutters passed through 'torpedo alley' some 100 miles off the coast of Greenland at about 1 a.m. on February 3, 1943. The German submarine U-223 fired three torpedoes, one of which hit the midsection of the USS Dorchester, a U.S. Army troopship with more than 900 men on board. Ammonia and oil were everywhere in the fast-sinking vessel and the freezing sea. The four chaplains on board, two Protestant pastors, a Catholic priest and a Jewish rabbi, were among the first on deck, calming the men and handing out life jackets. When they ran out, they took off their own and placed them on waiting soldiers without regard to faith or race. Approximately 18 minutes from the explosion, the ship went down. They were the last to be seen by witnesses; they were standing arm-in-arm on the hull of the ship, each praying in his own way for the care of the men. Almost 700 died, making it the third largest loss at sea of its kind for the United States during World War II. The Coast Guard Cutter Tampa was able to escort the other freighters to Greenland. Meanwhile, the cutters Comanche and Escanaba, disobeying orders to continue the search for the German U-Boat, stopped to rescue 230 men from the frigid waters that night.
The four Chaplains were Father John Washington (Catholic), Reverend Clark Poling (Dutch Reformed), Rabbi Alexander Goode (Jewish) and Rev. George Fox (Methodist). These four Chaplains were later honored by the U. S. Congress and presidents. They were recognized for their selfless acts of courage, compassion and faith. According to the First Sergeant on the ship, 'They were always together, they carried their faith together.' They demonstrated throughout the voyage and in their last moments, interfaith compassion in their relationship with the men and with each other. In 1960, the U. S. Congress created a special Congressional Medal of Valor, never to be repeated again, and gave it to the next of kin of the 'Immortal Chaplains.'"
The from 1928 to 1930 according to a design of Hugo Mayer, Rudolf Frass, Viktor Frass, Karl Hauschka, Heinrich Schopper, Alfred Chalusch and Johann Rothmüller built residential building of the City of Vienna comprises 727 apartments and numerous civic amenities and shops, and was named after the German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832).
The relatively low and for a complex of this size little pompous midsection is far moved back and forms a kind of atrium. Above the entrance there are three sculptures, two male musicians and a female dancer. Behind opens the large, partly grassed, partly serving as parking main courtyard, which stylistically rather unobstrusively and soberly was designed (with loggias and shallow bays). At its northern edge two pylon-like residential towers with crosswise running balconies and central, vertically glazed stairwells mark the exit to the "Emperor water".

In the West, adjacent to the complex, there is a park-like courtyard with a large detached nursery school building; interesting is the to the kindergarten opposite semicircular block. In the eastern side yard additionally a long block of flats was placed transversely in the yard. The somewhat strange juxtaposition of expressive and matter-of-fact cubic style elements here particularly sticks out. Outside of this large side wing lies the library. The on the corner attached sundial with ceramic zodiac signs comes from Alfred Chalusch and the sculptor Oskar Thiede.

The Goethehof was in February 1934 especially hard-fought.
On 14 February, the army at the right bank of the Danube, just below the Empire bridge, brought howitzers and guns in position, which in the afternoon opened the fire. The "Café Goethehof" was set on fire, after darkness fell also the old ice factory, located behind the Goethehof at the "Emperor water". During the night, the members of the Republican Defense League the hopeless struggle gave up.
In memory of those events, a commemorative plaque designed by Franz Pixner in 1984 was attached.

I have become a fan of the reboot.
There, I said it.
It was Cleo who converted me, but that is for another post, lol.
I got the Rivals 2 pack for Moanica, but I've actually warmed up to Drac. She has a cute face and I like her make up palette. The thing I don't like is her hair. It is frizzy and messy.
I have been waiting for School/New Sig whatever you want to call her Drac for a month now after seeing owner pics. I was able to snag her while she was briefly on Amazon yesterday for $14.99. (I have Prime and she was scheduled to be delivered tomorrow, but she showed up early- yay!) Do not, I repeat, do not cave in to scalpers and pay the $30 + price tags they are asking. It isn't worth it. That being said, I am VERY happy with her! She is "totes adorbs" and all I hoped she would be. Her hair is nice and silky, her lipstick is an awesome crimson shade and I was pleasantly surprised to find her skirt and black midsection are a nice heavy faux satin. (The top half is that cheap tricot Mattel is so fond of using.) I don't dig the plastic ruffles and that her sleeves aren't hemmed, but I can deal. She is a good, solid doll.
People will inevitably compare these new sigs to the original 2010 ones, but time has marched on. Six years later and the brand has gone through a lot. You aren't going to get lush fabrics, pets and diaries for $17.99 anymore. (That's what I paid for original Drac in 2010). I am cool with that. I think the $14.99 price is justifiable in today's market and if this reboot is what saves MH from extinction, then I'm all for it.
I am actually excited for MH again and I haven't been able to say that for a while.
The Queen of New Westminster pulling out of Tsawwassen terminal at dusk on her way to Swartz Bay. Built in 1964, the Queen of New Westminster has twice undergone major changes. First, in the 1970s it was split vertically and a new 25 m midsection was added to increase her capacity. And then in the 1990s it was split horizontally and a new upper car deck was inserted. The ship is now 130 m long with capacity for 270 vehicles and 1,340 passengers.
I had to shoot these handheld in fading light, so a little grainy.

Monument Circle's towering statue has gone to pieces
By: John Tuohy
June 2, 2011
Caption from The Indianapolis Star:
"Bronze lady Victory from the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on the Circle sits dismantled for restoration at Stout Field in Indianapolis. The statue, which was originally cast in segments, has been dismantled for restoration after gaps and cracks started to form in her joints. The monument's architect was German born Bruno Schmitz, who worked with George Thomas Brewster who cast the bronze envisioned by Schmitz. The torch represents the light of civilization. The eagle on her brow symbolizes freedom. Victory faces south to overlook the defeated Confederacy and welcome home returning soldiers."

Six months ago this was a near-perfect fit... no so much anymore.
I finished this sweater right before I started my weight loss regimen - and now, it will not even stay on my shoulders, and hangs very unflattering in the midsection...
It is better to rip it and reuse the great yarn than have it linger in my closet to catch dust...
The nilgai, sometimes called nilgau, is an antelope, and is one of the most commonly seen wild animals of central and northern India and eastern Pakistan; it is also present in parts of southern Nepal. The species has become extinct in Bangladesh. The mature males appear ox-like and are also known as blue bulls. The nilgai is the biggest Asian antelope.
Nilgai stand 1.1 to 1.4 metres (3 ft 7 in to 4 ft 7 in) at the shoulder and measure 1.7 to 2.1 metres (5 ft 7 in to 6 ft 10 in) in head-body length, with a 45 to 50 centimetres (18 to 20 in) tail. Males are larger than females, weighing around 240 kilograms (530 lb), compared with the adult female weight of around 110 kilograms (240 lb)
Nilgai have thin legs and a robust body that slopes down from the shoulder. They show marked sexual dimorphism, with only the males having horns. Adult males have a grey to bluish-grey coat, with white spots on the cheeks and white colouring on the edges of the lips. They also have a white throat bib and a narrow white stripe along the underside of the body that widens at the rear. The tips of the long tufted tail and of the ears are black. They also possess a tubular shaped "pennant" of long, coarse, hair on the midsection of the throat.
The males have two black conical horns, arising close together just behind the eyes. The horns are project upwards, but are slightly curved forward; they measure between 15 and 24 centimetres (5.9 and 9.4 in) in a fully grown adult. Although the horns are usually smooth, in some older males they may develop ring-shaped ridges near the base.
In contrast, females and young are tawny brown in colour, although otherwise with similar markings to the male; they have no horns and only a very small "pennant". Both sexes have an erectile mane on the back of the neck, terminating in a bristly "hog-tuft" just above the shoulders.

Recent eBay find. 65£. The very vague description and poor photo didn't mention one completely crushed corner, extensively repaired with tape. The pieces were placed inside the original bag, which looked sealed on first sight. By closer inspection it proved to be closed in one end with tape. The pieces appear as new and the puzzle has probably never been asembled, but there was carpet wool and plenty of hair, so the pieces have definitely left the bag.
There also seems to be the same problem as Mike encountered with his copy. Plenty of pieces were not cut completely through, so that they had to be cleaned carefully, and a number of pieces had a very tiny midsection with 2 pieces broken in half.

Here's a little bit of bodice ripping "prose" (I use the term loosely).
"Though she tried, she could not ignore the persistent flutter in her midsection that began when Lord Marcus touched her face – so sensuously! – and only intensified when he handed her down from his phaeton. Her feelings toward him careened wildly from one extreme to the other. All the more reason to extricate herself from their betrothal without delay!
She need time to think, to compose herself. She would not allow her future to be bartered like too much cotton – her fortune for Marcus’s name. She had more pride than that..."

Annapolis Maryland. October 2009. We thought we would try the crab and the waitress brought us these little wooden mallets to use, so I gave my crab a couple of sharp blows to the midsection when suddenly a woman jumped across the table and started yelling at me, "Stop, Stop!"
Uh, OK... The woman grabbed the mallet and proceeded to explain everything I didn't know about how to dismantle a crab in order to eat the very small fraction of edible parts which she seemed happy to help herself to out of force of habit. At various points throughout the demonstration she would threaten to make her clinging child swim across the canal to get back home. It seems she had been out of town for a week surviving on a forced diet of Midwest beef.
Overall it was a pretty interesting experience and I'm glad I was not very hungry or it could have been slightly frustrating. The guy at the next table looked like he had drunk enough beer to be able to eat shells and all and seemed to be sleep walking his way through the enormous pile of crabs in front of him.

[photo source: Google / a couple performing capoiera, an Afro-Brazilian dance]
[I could not find a clear and proper photo of kolbasti dancers – that are not Turkish soccer players! – for what this entry is about, so I replaced it with a photo of capoiera dancers in reference to my later discussion about the Afro-Brazilian dance.]
BBC article (oh, BBC): A man was called in by a passerby of witnessing him beating his wife, but, he insisted they were dancing a traditional Turkish dance called kolbasti . Judge told authorities to look up the dance before charges can be dropped.
I became curious and looked up kolbasti's choreography. This video was the first hit, with a little over five million views, on my search results:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GNE6AhL0qI
(Now, Sarah Brightman should get on kolbasti music. I think the tune is rather catchy.)
I was waiting for one of the guys to punch, physically, the other guy out. No women are involved in this video, but there are videos of women dancing to this.
The dance may seem a little goofy to some. (I find New Yorkers who sway, if they ever, their jaded stiff bodies with a beer bottle in one hand goofy looking.) Kolbasti looks like an easy dance to pick up, and, quite easy to get into without too much complexity and, especially, if you like to shove and air punch your partner. Without moshing in a pit.
And, there's no strangling, which was reported in the article as part of the dance.
The attacking gestures in dance fascinates me as they add an unusual element to the "idea" of what dance is. Capoiera, which is a fighting technique disguised as a dance by African slaves in Brazil's time of slavery, is now an intense dance art performed by men and women. Exciting to watch. It's a very fluid looking dance, while not easy to execute. Need to work your arms, midsection and balance if you want to fly all over the place.

As we become more seasoned, our digestion plunges and increasingly fat starts to aggregate around our waistline, giving us that 'extra tire'! Be that as it may, disposing of midsection fat isn't just about appearances. Studies state that individuals with an enormous waist are 2.75 occasions bound to pass on of coronary illness, regardless of whether they are inside a sound weight territory. The fat put away in your tummy locale is more hazardous than the fat put away in the remainder of your body. It builds awful LDL cholesterol, disturbs your glucose, expands your circulatory strain and your danger of having a cardiovascular failure. So, having that extra tire is more hazardous than just being overweight!
