We awoke to a beautiful morning with wispy mist drifting over the valley and low clouds draping into the low spots. We broke camp and climbed the nearest hill. Below us lay the enchanted city of Crystal Falls. There was no discernible movement within the city so we decided the rumors of its abandonment were accurate. It was time to pay a visit.

We swung open the heavy oak doors and stepped into a paneled reading room. Books lined the walls from floor to ceiling. In the center of the room was a table on which rested two large bound books. The voice we heard in the outer chamber appeared again like some omniscient narrator, "The Book of Sacred Adventures lies upon the table. Open the book. The book has psychic properties and will sense your desired adventure and thus will only open to one specific page. Your adventure awaits you there."
I stepped forward and opened the book. An incredible sight emerged before us.
"That is the Ruby Waterfall," said the voice. "Good luck on your journey."
"But how do we know where to find it?" I asked
"Behold the other book lying next to the Book of Sacred Adventures. It is the Book of Stairways. Open it and the beginning of your journey will be revealed."

We were feeling pretty good after getting by Scorchclaw but the feeling was short lived when another monster rose suddenly out of the water. This was Dagmar known for freezing interlopers with his icy gaze and then banishing them to his underwater cavern where they became his slaves for life. Whatever we did, it was imperative not to look directly into his eyes. Remembering that we had purchased some blackout sleep masks in the gift shop at the Crimson Kingdom we quickly put them on and hoped that it would be enough to protect us from Dagmar's gaze. They must have worked because we soon found ourselves beyond him.

We knocked on the door of the compound. A fierce looking man glared out at us but granted us admission when we told him we came bearing gifts for the Sand Whisperer.
The Sand Whisperer was busy with his dinner, so we waited in silence until he finished. He looked at us with a passive face and asked our reason for seeking him out. We explained we were seeking directions to the Ruby Falls. He grunted and asked us what gifts we bore. I laid a knife with a ruby hilt I had procured at the Palace gift shop before him. He grunted again and seemed satisfied.
"You proceed to the village of Grimwood Burrough. The people there will instruct you further. They are a strange race of people that we know little about. I will send you to the border in the undertaker's carriage. That will keep you safe from the road vagabonds."
With that he grew silent again. We took it as a sign that we were dismissed. We left to find the undertaker's carriage.
