Somewhereville's Elmer Crumply, prides himself on his complete "lack of purpose" life style. Every afternoon before climbing out of bed he chants his favorite mantra, "start out slow and taper off."

Dr. Septimus Fiddleman arrived in Somewhereville after hearing rumors of the "Simplification" and the vanishing buildings. Dr. Fiddleman is a slightly eccentric but razor-sharp professor of Medieval History at the regional university. He is known for his obsession with esoteric town rituals and forgotten folklore. While combing the archives in a crumbling monastery library in Europe, Fiddleman uncovered a worn book describing a strange 14th-century village (called Gloamshire) plagued by a phenomenon nearly identical to Somewhereville. A passing wizard had told the citizens that to eradicate the spell, they would need to gather every feather left by the raven and burn them in a public ritual. Apparently, when the smoke cleared in Gloamshire, the spell was broken and the town returned to normal.

We had little trouble gaining entry into the Ruby Queen's castle. Unlike the Sultan's palace in the Crimson Kingdom there was no wait time to see her. We were immediately ushered into her presence. She sat upon an elegant throne in an enchanted throne room adorned with rubies. She looked at me and enquired as to my mission there. I told her we were looking to find our way home. She got quite excited when she noticed Kenzie. She was instantly drawn to the collar that Qwim Qwizzle had placed around her neck. She came down from her throne and knelt before Kenzie and begin to pet her quite affectionally.

We were starting to worry that perhaps this was not the Ruby Sorcerer's abode after all, when suddenly while walking down what appeared to be a dead-end corridor, a flash of blinding light appeared before us. At first we could not see through the stars in our eyes, but when they cleared, before us stood the Ruby Sorcerer. He asked what it was we wanted from him. I told him we were keen to find our way back home and had been told by the Ruby Queen the he could help us. At first the sorcerer appeared to be quite skeptical, but his countenance softened when he noticed the ruby collar on Kenzie's neck.
"You will find your way home in the book of Sacred Home Comings. You must consult the Eye of the Oracle to find its location." With that he waived his arms and the world around us begin to swirl faster and faster.

On the evening of the next day, after camping at Lower Ruby Falls, we reached our final destination. Upper Ruby Falls exceeded our wildest expectations. Looking like a laser light show from a Pink Floyd concert, it spilled from a high peak into a beautiful basin of translucent water. The source of water is unknown and thought to originate from a deep cavern below the earth. We decided to pitch our tent and enjoy this wonderful place for a while. The Ruby Queen could wait.

We found Qwim Qwizzle in front of his house. He also was quite interested in Kenzie. He told us that he was over 200 years old and was the only one to have traveled beyond the hamlet. He said to reach Ruby Falls we must travel through the dangerous Ruby Falls River Canyon. The canyon was protected by a series of monsters that had been created by the Ruby Queen whose castle lay on the far side of Ruby Falls. He told us that if we wished to return home, the Ruby Queen was the only being that could get us there. As for the journey forward he told us to seek out Shadowfer Shadewind, the keeper of the boats on the river. As a parting gift he gave us a bottle containing a potion that he said would gain us passage by the last monster in the canyon. The solutions to get by the rest of the monsters were up to our own bravery and ingenuity. As we were leaving he bent down and placed a collar with a single ruby around Kenzie's neck. "This will earn you a welcome with the Ruby Queen if you're lucky enough to make it that far."
