The chipKIT™ Cmod is a chipKIT/MPIDE compatible board from Digilent. It combines a Microchip® PIC32MX150F128D microcontroller with a convenient 600-mil, 40-pin DIP package and two Digilent Pmod connectors. Digilent's Cmod boards are ideally suited for breadboards or other prototype circuit designs where the use of small surface mount packages is impractical.

The chipKIT Cmod takes advantage of the powerful PIC32MX150F128D microcontroller. This microcontroller features a 32-bit MIPS processor core running at 40 MHz, 128K of flash memory, and 32K of SRAM data memory.

..lost and found my stash of ATtiny85s but not before finding every other component first - I need to do some serious sorting of my electronics boxes!

ATtiny85 www.atmel.com/devices/attiny85.aspx

I designed and built a passive infrared trigger for my Canon EOS 5D camera (will work with any camera with a remote shutter release socket) to take pictures when something (an animal) sets off the PIR sensor. This will allow me to set the camera up to automatically capture anythng that moves in front of the sensor. I used a microcontroller to control the camera wake up and shutter release relays. This gives me the ability to control the frequency and number of shots. For the prototype I trigger the wake up relay for 300ms then the shutter release relay for 300ms followed by a 300ms pause before checking the input again to see if there is still movement in front of the PIR sensor. I also put a long delay (1 second) after 5 continuous shots. Depending on results I may replace this long delay with a wait until the PIR is no longer being triggered to prevent too many pictures of one event if the animal stays in range of the PIR sensor for a while. The cool thing is that the camera can go into sleep mode allowing the battery to last for days as the circuit wakes the camera up when movement is detected.

Digital synthesis hacking using the Atmel AVR32 microcontroller evaluation board (EVK1100). This thing gets 80 million instructions per second at 66mhz, has 64k ram/512k program flash built in to mcu, 32 megs of SDRAM, 8 Megs of data flash, SD/MMC card slot, bottons, knob, leds, joystick, LCD, light sensor, temp sensor, ethernet port, two serial ports broken out, USB, general prototyping area, etc. The actual microcontroller has quite a bit more, but not everything is broken out on this board.

It comes running a web server with FTP, SMTP, telnet (pseudo shell), FAT file system, USB mass storage host/slave... all which serves up web pages over ethernet that let you view the various analog sensor data in realtime (graphs it out using HTML canvas tag pretty sweet). You can configure this to email you when certain sensor thresholds are hit, log data to .txt then get it via usb since this will show up as mass storage. Sick.

Mikes Arduino Class March 2011 Class one

The Arduino Uno is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega328

It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started.

The chipKIT™ MX3 is a microcontroller development board based on the Microchip® PIC32MX320F128H, a member of the 32-bit PIC32 microcontroller family. It is compatible with Digilent’s line of Pmods, and is suitable for use with the Microchip MPLAB® IDE tools. The chipKIT MX3 is also compatible for use with the chipKIT MPIDE development environment.

The chipKIT MX3 provides 42 I/O pins that support a number of peripheral functions, such as UART, SPI, and I2C ports as well as five pulse-width modulated outputs and five external interrupt inputs. Eleven of the I/O pins can be used as analog inputs in addition to their use as digital inputs and outputs.
