I was attracted to the idea of cutting stencils of ships with big sails mainly because I knew they would make such nice delivery mechanisms for patterns.
I did a tutorial on how I made the large flower relief print here:
Boardwalk, Miami Beach, Florida. I've always thought this photo had a weird vibe about it, so I've held back on posting it. Friday the 13th seemed like a good time to let it out into the airwaves.

Two weeks pass by and Jason shows greater health improvements as the time passes by but he still remains deep in his coma. Alfred and I have researched all known methods to try and wake Jason up from the coma without harming him. So there is has all been to no avail. So for the moment there’s nothing else we can do besides allow time to do its work, and that’s the most painful thing about it. That no matter how much I want to, all I can do is sit back and wait for Jason to come around in his own time.
In the meantime as much as I’d love to watch over him until he’s back to full health Gotham needs me. Since I returned the clown to the asylum things seem to have picked up again, I suspect rumors spread that I may have finally snapped and given the clown what he deserved thus why they were scared to go out at night. But with Joker back in the asylum it will be common knowledge that I still don’t cross the line, and the vermin will be back out on the streets.
With most of the equipment still damaged from Jason’s actions in the cave I’m reliant on my old motorbike that I haven’t used for about six years. Fortunately Alfred being the obsessive maintenance freak that he is has kept the bike in prime condition so I’m still able to traverse Gotham, if not as fast as I would like. Fortunately, most of Tim’s vehicles were overlooked so whilst my mobility around Gotham may be limited, Tim’s is not.
He’s a good soldier. He does me proud everyday. But I thought the same of Jason before the clown stole him away from me. The fact that someone who was once so close to me could become what Jason was terrifies me. It also has me doubting my methods. Am I what’s right for the ones who I take on? Sure Dick is flourishing now in Bludhaven with his own identity but not before he left me. Had he stayed with me rather than leaving would he be the man he is now? Or would he be something else entirely? Would he have suffered a similar fate as Jason?
I know that Dick’s talents were refined during his time with me, but I wasn’t the one who inspired him to take up the fight in his own way. That was Clark. It always seems to be Clark that inspires good in people. All I seem to achieve is to make people afraid of their own shadows. What sort of man does that make me? I’m no Superman but I like to think that I at least manage to bring about some good in my actions. But despite holding a position on the Justice League, a team the public says is made up of ‘the world’s finest heroes’ I can’t help but think that I shouldn’t be on the team. They’re all heroes. I’m anything but. Hell I’m not even sure if I’m a good man or not.
This question has been running through my head since I learnt of all that happened to Jason. All of it being my fault. Had I taken the time to train him properly and help him overcome his issues perhaps all this could have been prevented. Perhaps if I was a better man poor Jason wouldn’t have suffered. Perhaps he’d be awake right now and helping me out on patrol.
But then again, were it not for Jason’s loss I would never have met Tim and the poor young man would have been left homeless and alone with no parents to care for him. Hell he probably would have become one of the vermin that I’m hunting right now. It just goes to show doesn’t it? That even in the worst of times, there is some good if you’re willing to look for it. As all this races through my head I hear Tim climbing up onto the rooftop. I hear him from the minute his grapple attaches to the building and I hear every single footstep he takes.
“You alright?”
“You need to work on your stealth. I heard you from the other side of the building.”
“Well I guess it’s no wonder that Jason managed to track me down to the old clock tower then eh?”
“…”
“Aw come on lighten up it’s a joke.”
“…”
“Hey.”
He puts his hand on my shoulder to comfort me.
“It’s going to be alright. He’s got Alfred looking after him, what more could a guy want?”
"To have not gone through any of this in the first place. Perhaps if I was a better man all of this could have been prevented.”
“Bruce. You mustn’t think like that.”
“But it’s true. Isn’t it? If it weren’t for me, none of this would have happened! Jason wouldn’t have be tortured by the clown, Dick and Barbra wouldn’t have fallen out. You wouldn’t have those bruises, and Jason wouldn’t be in a coma….”
“You don’t know that….”
“I do Tim. That’s the problem.”
I turn to face him. He lowers his hand as I turn to him.
“Bruce, what’s brought all this on? What’s the matter?”
“It’s just something I’ve been thinking about…”
“What was it?”
“Can I ask you a question?”
“Of course why?”
“I want you to answer this question honestly. With no regard for my feelings or anything. Just tell me what you think.”
“What is it Bruce?”
“Tim. What do you think of me?”
“Sorry?”
“What do you think of me? Do you think I’m a good man?“
“Of course! You’re the best man I know? What’s brought all this on?”
“It’s just….”
“Bruce?”
“I’m not sure whether I’m actually doing any good. I mean I claim to be honoring my Father’s last wish but am I actually doing them justice? Sure I have criminals running scared in the streets just at the sight of me, but at the end of the day what difference does that make? The city doesn’t change. They just depend on some fool in a mask to make the difference for them. Perhaps…..I’m not what this city needs.”
“That’s rubbish! You’re exactly what this city needs and you know it!”
“Really? If it weren’t for me the old clock tower would still be standing, not the charred husk that it is now. The clown wouldn’t have filled five hundred and seventy one graves just to get under my skin. Harvey wouldn’t have had the accident! Jim would still be speaking to Barbra!”
“And Gotham city would have been all but destroyed if it weren’t for you. We both know the GCPD would never have caught the clown if it weren’t for you! Sionis would have launched a gang war with Cobblepot and killed hundreds if not thousands in the crossfire!”
“And what about Clark?”
“What?”
“Don’t play coy with me Tim. I know you read my report of the first time I met Clark, and how I nearly killed us all.”
“That’s not you being a bad person Bruce. That’s you being human. We all make mistakes, that’s inescapable. Even Clark and Diana mistakes! Remember when he intercepted a shuttle craft believing it to be a missile?”
“Of course not.”
“I mean the news networks played that story for weeks! You see? Even the mighty Superman makes mistakes. It’s inescapable. But it’s not about the mistakes you make. It’s about how you work to redeem them. That’s what counts.”
Blimey. Tim’s clearly spent a lot of time with Alfred lately. Those are some wise words. Hard to believe they came out of a 17 year olds mouth.
“So I know you think you’ve made a terrible mistake with how you handled Jason, that’s fine. But rather than focusing so much on the mistakes you made, I think you should look forward to the future, and to what you think needs to be done to correct the mistakes you made.”
Tim’s right. There’s nothing I can do to correct my past mistakes. It’s inescapable that I will always have to live with these mistakes. But it’s down to me to correct my mistakes, and that’s exactly what I plan to do.
I’m not sure when or if Jason will wake up from his coma. But if he does, I’ll be there for him. I’ll be there to help him through all this no matter what. I promise you that Jason.
“…”
A tear drops down from my right eye. The lenses in my cowl hide my eyes from Tim’s view but he notices the tear fall down my cheek.
“Are you alright Bruce?”
“Yes. I’m fine Tim.”
I spread my arms and hold him tight.
“Thank you, for everything.”
“No problem.”
“No really. Thank you. If it weren’t for you tracking me down when you did I wouldn’t be the man I am today. I’m a better man because of you. Because of all of you.”
“All of me?”
“You. Dick. Jason. All of you. I wouldn’t be the man I am without each of you, and I’m proud to call you all my sons.”
Tim moves his arms and places them around me.
“And I’m proud to call you my Father.”
I spot a couple of tears dripping down from underneath his mask. I hold him tighter. I feel warm on the inside. It’s touching to hear that Tim thinks of me in this way.
“Thank you.”
The moment quickly gets cut short by the sound of a burglar alarm echoing out into the street below us. Tim and I look down to see Harley robbing a doll store. Hard to believe anyone could take sympathy on the clown, but then again given the state the clown was in when Dick and I returned him to Arkham from the County Fair it’s not surprising.
“Never a dull moment eh?”
“It would seem not. Come on we’ve got work to do.”

So Volume 2 comes to a close, but I feel that I should mention something. It's common knowledge that a good friend of mine, Brandon (FILMGMR) chose to depart Flickr for his own personal reasons.
I feel I should note that in the original plan Jason was to wake up and he would begin to work towards redeeming his actions as the Red Hood. But with Brandon's departure that seems unlikely to occur. As such I thought it would be best to honour Brandon's sensational Red Hood series by choosing to somewhat end Jason's story. As I feel I stood no chance of matching up to Brandon's excellent series and it would have been a dis-service for the story to continue not under Brandon's vision.
But yeah. Hope you liked the volume. Stay tuned for Volume #3, When World's Collide.
I'm a turkey roastin' son-of-a-gun! LOL HAPPY THANKSGIVING, Everyone!
Don't be afraid to roast a turkey! Here's a virtually fool-proof method! (First off, can you roast a chicken? Then you can roast a turkey...a turkey's just a big-ass chicken...treat it as such.)
I don't know if this is a "recipe" per se, but here's a way to cook a turkey and get the above results every single time.
First, make sure that you've removed all of the bags of giblets from your bird. Wash it well. Here comes the big secret...do this, and your roasting is basically a "set it and forget it" type procedure, whether it's chicken, turkey, a roast, etc: Pour about 1/8" of cooking oil into your roasting pan; place your bird in the pan, breast side up, and slide it around on the oil to coat its backside. Now pour about 1/2" of water into the roasting pan. The oil will keep the bird from sticking, and the water will keep the bird from drying out. Now you can riff on all kinds of rubs, seasonings, etc: You can stuff the bird's cavity with oranges and lemons if you desire; rub garlic on the turkey and insert whole cloves of garlic into the cavity; devise a rub or simply use salt and pepper or Lawry's seasoned salt. Thyme goes good on a turkey!
Now that your bird is properly prepared and seasoned here's the most important part: Follow the cooking directions that came on the bird's packaging!!! Your bird has a weight...round that up: If your bird weighs 15.68 pounds round that up to 16 pounds...then follow the packaging direction for cooking a bird of that weight. Typically oven temperatures will be between 300 and 320 degrees. You're cooking low and slow!
About 1 and a half to 2 hours into the roasting take a look at your turkey...don't be afraid to open the oven door and slide the rack out so that you can get a good look. When the skin is about as brown as you want it to be place a tent of aluminum foil over the bird and return it to the oven to finish cooking. I usually like to remove the tent after the bird is done and allow the skin to brown just a tad more.
How do you know when the bird is done? If you're an experienced cook it's pretty easy...if you're worried about it then simply use a meat thermometer...but that can sometimes be an inaccurate method...the thermometer might say that the bird's reached the proper internal temperature, but maybe you want the bird a little more done. If you cook much at all you can look at the bird and tell when it's about how you want it. If all else fails go by the package directions...just cook it for that amount of time, tenting as necessary to keep the skin from burning.
Don't ever, ever, ever rely on those stupid pop-up doneness indicators that some processors insert into their birds. I haven't seen one in awhile, but if yours has one...take it out! They're about as useless as tits on a boar hog!
When your bird's done remove it from the oven, take it carefully out of the roasting pan and place it onto a carving board / serving platter. Let it rest for about 10-15 minutes before you carve it.

The Brenizer method consists of stitching lots of pictures with shallow depth of field to create the impression of medium or large format photography.
I used here the Jupiter-3 lens on a MFT camera, and stitched about 90 pictures.
It is the rough equivalent of a 22mm f0.59 lens on fullframe.

Took this picture of this beautiful girl in an old wool factory in Norway. Used the Canon 6D and a Sigma 50mm lens for this photograph.
I used a slicing method I learned a while back. I machine quilted it on my Singer 7460 machine.

Ten things about 10 stopper
4) How to use a 10 stop ND filter :
Being an extremely dark glass the method of using it is slightly different from other lower density ND filters.
Screw-In Type
1) Tripod is a must.Set your tripod at desired position and height.Place the Camera and compose the shot with auto focus.
2)Then switch to manual focus either from the camera body or via lens in order to prevent the Camera from struggling to auto focus once the dark glass is on.
3)Screw-in the 10 stop filter,check the meter reading and add exposure compensation-take some test shots to see what you like.

4)If your Camera has a Mirror Lock-up feature and an Eye piece curtain,do make use of them to avoid tripod shake and creeping of stray light from the viewfinder while long exposure respectively. (More details in coming pictures)

3) Screw in the adaptor ring or you can have the adaptor ring screwed in advance before composing the shot,then slide the dark glass from above in the filter slot.

Brian Cook, who became Brian Batsford, produced a series of well-know book covers using the Berte printing method - this illustration is from a 1935 article on the method.
A precautionary note with this method. Blue grill tiles do not work!....For some reason they just spring off the clips and will not hold, yet the black grill tiles stay in place?! However, what an intricate faff this method is. The pics you see here show it all working, up until the point I attached the roof and watched every single grill tile fire off sideways like projectiles! Absoloutely NOT recommended. Hours of time and parts wasted on this, its just not strong enough, especially for transportation, so the method has been completely scrapped. EPIC Fail!

The Dixie Walesbilt Hotel, known as the Grand Hotel in later years, is one of a small number of skyscrapers built in the 1920s that still stand today and is a prime example of how optimistic people were during the Florida land boom. Built in 1926, it found financing through a stock-sale campaign in the local business community, costing $500,000 after it was completed(which equates to about $6 million today.)
The building architecture, masonry vernacular with hints of Mediterranean-Revival, is also a good example of the time is was built. It was designed by two well-known architects at the time, Fred Bishop who designed the Byrd Theatre in Virginia, and D.J. Phipps, whose designed both the Wyoming County Courthouse and Jail and the Colonial Hotel in Virginia.
The hotel was constructed using the “three-part vertical block” method, which became the dominant pattern in tall buildings during the 1920s. Three-part buildings are composed of a base, shaft and a cap, all noticeably visible.
The hotel opened as the “Walesbilt” in January 1927, shortly after the land boom had started to collapse and two years before the Great Depression began. It’s also best to note that the hotel opened around the same time the Floridan Hotel in Tampa opened, another hotel built during the Florida land boom.
In 1972, the hotel was purchased by Anderson Sun State and renamed the “Groveland Motor Inn”. The firm completely renovated the hotel and used it to host visitors to the area who were interested in Green Swamp, land sectioned off for land development. At the time there was heavy speculation in the land because of it’s close proximity to Walt Disney World and were selling for around $5,000 an acre at the time. That ended after a state cabinet designation of the swamp as an area of critical state concern, placing the land off-limits to any large land developments. The firm filed for foreclosure and the hotel was auctioned off in 1974. Despite RCI Electric purchasing the hotel, it remained empty for many years afterwards.
n 1978, the hotel was signed over to the Agape Players, a nationally known religious music and drama group, who would assume the mortgage and would pay the costs to make improvements to meet city fire and safety standards. The hotel was renamed the “Royal Walesbilt” and after extensive improvements were made, it became the headquarters for the Agape Players; using it as a teaching facility and the base from which the group launched their tours. In addition, they operated a restaurant, an ice cream parlor on the lobby floor and a “Christian hotel” on the upper floors, catering mostly to groups. The Agape Players disbanded in 1985 and put the property up for sale
Victor Khubani, a property investor from New York acquired the property and renamed the hotel “Grand”. The hotel closed briefly in December 1988, due to a variety of code violations and causing the owner to later pay $14,000 in fines. On August 31, 1990 it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, possibly for tax exemption reasons. In October 1991, The State Fire Marshall’s Office gave the owner one year to install a new sprinkler system and in May 1993, the code enforcement board gave Khubani until March to complete the work.
In March 1994, the hotel closed due to multiple code violations and was to remain closed until a new fire sprinkler system was installed. To reopen, the fire escapes and elevator, which did not function, would have to be repaired as well. In 1995, the hotel was auctioned off to a redevelopment firm, which dismantled part of the interior for reconstruction, which was never completed.
Since then, the hotel has deteriorated, becoming an eyesore to many of the residents of Lake Wales and nicknamed “The Green Monster” for the greenish color it has acquired from over the years. In 1995, it was even jokingly mentioned to become a sacrifice to “the bomb”, an economic boom that occurred in parts of Florida where movie production companies would pay cities to blow up buildings for their movies. In 2007, the city foreclosed on the structure for more than $700,000 in unpaid code fines, with hopes in finding someone to restore it.
Development firm, Dixie-Walesbilt LLC announced plans to restore the hotel, signing into an agreement with the city of Lake Wales in February 2010. By the agreement, the city would retain ownership of the building until a defined amount of work had been accomplished. The work must be completed within 16 months and the amount of money invested must succeed at least $1.5 million. The building would then be handed off the Dixie Walesbilt LLC, where they may continue with private funding or other methods to for debt funding.
Ray Brown, President of Dixie Walesbilt LLC, planned to invest $6 million into the renovation, with original plans to put retail stores on the ground floor and using the upper floors for as many as 40 condominiums.
On June 2, 2011, the city of Lake Wales agreed to deed the building off to Ray Brown in a 4-1 vote, after meeting the requirements of the redevelopment agreement. Though Brown submitted a list of costs to the city totaling $1.66 million, Mayor Mike Carter wasn’t satisfied with the results so far, pointing out that Brown failed to repair the windows and repaint the building. Previous owners had put tar on the building and then painted over it, so much of Brown’s investment went to stripping the tar off the exterior walls.
To repaint the building, Brown would also have to resurface the hotel with hydrated lime to replicate the original skin as well as the window frames would need to be constructed of Douglas fir, red cedar and gulf cypress. According to Brown, previous owners who renovated the building rarely removed the building original elements. They carpeted over intricate tile flooring, stuck tar paper above skylights and placed modern drinking fountains in front of the originals. He estimated about 98 percent of the building is still in it’s original form.
Restoration of the building’s exterior began in January 2015 and included surface repair, pressure washing, paint removal, chemical treatment, and a comprehensive resurfacing of the exterior.
While the original plans were for turning the building into condominiums, that has since changed and current plans call for operating the building as a boutique hotel. The hotel will feature geothermal cooling as opposed to traditional air conditioning, a permanent art gallery as well as theme gallery showings throughout the year, and the best WiFi/internet in the city. The project is expected to be completed in 18 to 24 months.

First try using the Ryan Brenizer method with a 50mm prime at f/2 on the D610 with 12 vertical frames merged. This photo is equivalent of a 30mm f/1.2 lens.

This was a cooking experiment as a result of something I heard on the radio. The speaker said he liked to eat fresh tomatoes on pasta. His method was to slice and dice one or more ripe tomatoes, place them into a bowl, sprinkle a little sea salt and fresh ground black pepper, grate a bit of Parmesan cheese, and add some olive oil and maybe a thin slice of sweet onion. Serve the uncooked tomatoes over some pasta like spaghetti.
The onion I used the first time was a small boiling onion that I like to use for small dishes. I diced it up fine and mixed it raw in with the tomato. The only problem was that I burped onion for several hours afterward. Next time I sauteed the onion along with a sliced zucchini, and that went very well with the tomatoes. Shown here is a small piece of grilled salmon left over from the huge pieces that Leslie Anne got for our Hurricane Irma party. More about that later. Since the salmon was already cooked, I just zapped it in the microwave for a minute to warm it up. I ate a bite or two, then flaked it with my fork and mixed it with the tomatoes over my pasta. Even though I only cooked half of a one pound package of spaghetti, I had twice as much pasta for a normal meal, so I saved it. A few days later, I revived the pasta with some melted butter before warming it up in the microwave oven and topping it with tomatoes and the sauteed onion and zucchini.
So now I have a new, proven quickie meal: fresh tomatoes (plus other stuff) over spaghetti that is a lot faster than cooking up a big sauce in which I always include everything in the kitchen.
This is Ghillie a 12 year old Golden Retriever. She is sitting in an avenue of chestnut trees in the Bevridge park in Kirkcaldy. This photograph is done using the Brenizer method which involves shooting a panoramic image using a telephoto lens and stitching the parts back together to produce an impossible wide angle view. This image is made up from 8x24Mb images. This was a test shot which actually turned out better than the main shot. I used a canon 5d3, a Sigma 120-300, at 300mm f2.8 which makes for a depth of field of only a few feet.
