Taken for the group Strobist Sundays. This week's theme: Liquid.
This soap is slightly overpriced, but it smells nice. Needed to refill some soap containers, thought it may make for an interesting shot! Thanks to my assistant, Kristin for pouring the soap while I fired away.
One SB-28 fired through umbrella to left of camera @ 1/32, WB set to flash. This image is pretty much unedited, except for a slight crop off the bottom.
Having placed the veneer around the watch bar, apply a strong glue to both sides and top and bottom edges of the end lozenge. I used Loctite. You have to work very quickly and place it in the veneer very accurately. Once it sticks you can only cut it apart.
The Effects of Yumomi
At Kusatsu Onsen, a traditional method called jikan-yu is employed when taking the bath.
At about 65 degrees Celsius, Kusatsu's spring water is too hot for bathing. So in order to make it possible to bathe in the water, the bathwater is stirred with long planks to cool it to an enterable 48 degrees. This act of stirring the water is called "yumomi."
Even at 48 degrees, yumomi makes it possible to bathe comfortably in the water. Normally water at this temperature is too hot for bathing. However, because of the high quality and concentration (acidic due to hydrogen sulfide) of the water here at Kusatsu Onsen, it is possible to take a bath at this temperature. In addition to this, when the water is hit with the sun's rays and mixes with the air, it crystallizes into Kusatsu's "yunohana," a natural bath salt.
The water continually mixes with air during yumomi, which allows for the creation of lots of yunohana, raising the concentration of the water even further. Yunohana are microscopically dispersed throughout the water, and when people enter the bath they create a thin membrane around their bodies, which makes the water feel cooler to the touch. In this way the water feels especially "soft," which is why the water is of a different class than water that has simply been cooled.
This method of lowering the water temperature also serves as an important pre-bathing exercise. In addition, breathing steam into the body also has therapeutic effects. Everyone sings a special song at this time, which further stimulates deep breathing, adding to the absorption of steam and healing effects of yumomi.

Kusatsu Onsen (草津温泉) is one of Japan's most famous hot spring resorts and is blessed with large volumes of high quality hot spring water said to cure every illness but lovesickness.
Well known as a hot spring resort for many centuries, Kusatsu's fame was further boasted by German doctor Erwin von Baelz, who served at the imperial court in the late 1800s and recommended Kusatsu for its water's health benefits.
Kusatsu is situated at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level in the mountains of Gunma Prefecture, and offers skiing in winter and hiking during the rest of the year to be enjoyed in combination with hot spring bathing. Kusatsu is also located along Japan's Romantic Road.

Just a quick curves and color adjustment layer to this one.

‘Naître et Grandir’ (N&G) provides online parenting information for preschool children’s parents. The Information Assessment Method (IAM) allows consumers to systematically evaluate webpages. IAM documents four levels of information outcomes (relevance, cognitive impact, use, benefits) and collects consumers’ comments. N&G implemented IAM-v2014.
OBJECTIVE: Content validate the IAM with/for parents.
MIXED METHODS DESIGN: An ecological content validation was conducted (relevance and representativeness of IAM questions validated by IAM users). Participants completed at least one IAM questionnaire during the 8-month study period (n=22,407). For each question, a relevance ratio (R) was calculated (low relevance: R≤10%). For each outcome level, the extent to which questions represented all aspects was assessed using 121 IAM comments, interviews with 19 IAM users (maximum variation sampling), and qualitative content analysis. Quantitative and qualitative results were jointly displayed (matrix).
RESULTS: IAM questions were simplified and clarified. Of the initial 30 questions, six had low relevance. Using the matrix of results, an expert panel reworded 17 questions, merged nine into two, removed one, and left three unchanged.
CONCLUSION: The IAM-v2015 questionnaire for parents has content validated questions; it is more concise and clear. IAM can be used by Web editors to improve information and interactions with consumers.
Short-billed Dowitcher
A medium to large shorebird with a long bill, the Short-billed Dowitcher is a common and conspicous migrant that uses a "sewing-machine" method of foraging across the mud flats. Its long bill is short only in comparison with the very similar Long-billed Dowitcher.
Adult Description
A medium-sized shorebird with a bill twice as long as its head.
Moderately long, pale legs.
Immature Description
Juvenal plumage with buffy chest and flanks, less spotting and barring than breeding adults. Back feathers dark centered with broad buffy edges, giving a slightly scaly appearance. Tertials dark with orange pattern inside ("tiger-striped").

Cool Facts
The nest and eggs of this species eluded discovery until 1906, and even that information was overlooked for a long while because they were attributed to the Long-billed Dowitcher. The nesting grounds of the eastern race were not discovered until the late 1950s.
Although both sexes share incubation of the eggs, only the male takes care of the young once they hatch.
Habitat
Breeds in muskegs of taiga to timberline, and barely onto subarctic tundra.
Winters on coastal mud flats and brackish lagoons.
In migration prefers saltwater tidal flats, beaches, and salt marshes.
Found in freshwater mud flats and flooded agricultural fields.
Food
Aquatic invertebrates. On breeding grounds eats fly larvae, other insects, snails, and some seeds.
Nest Description
Nest a simple bowl in thick vegetation, usually on top of a clump of sedge, lined with dried grass, leaves, twigs, and ptarmigan feathers.

Male sings in flight on breeding grounds.Probes deeply into soft substances to the depth of the bill, sometimes submerging the head. Food is captured and swallowed under the mud, except for worms, which are pulled to the surface. Feeds in water up to the depth of the belly.
I marked where the black & white connecting strips met each block with a pin. Then I labelled each block before I picked it up off the 'design bed' and re-assembled them on my design wall, using the pins to figure out the left-right alignment. The blue tape is the maximum width I need to get to for this column.

Erased Charcoal 7 x 10
This is a drawing of an electronic organ. I left the photo raw to show the process. You can clearly see the ground of charcoal that was erased into.
A busy Laker the last few days arrives in Lorain, OH. After delivering a load of Taconite to Cleveland, she headed to Marblehead for a load Limestone for Lorain.
