I love this giant old juniper, and its long dead. The wood is like a rock, and parts are still covered in the old alligator skin bark. I've had a few people offer to cut it down for firewood, but I absolutely refuse.

by MSHS Creative Writing Class
We worked on writing extended metaphors in creative writing this week. This is the one we created as a class, and it took half the class period. We started off by brainstorming everything we could think of about bread dough, and as much as they "waste" time brainstorming, they found themselves referring to it constantly while we wrote this poem, which took about 30 minutes to construct together.
In the end the students were quite proud of their work, and the process drove home the point that writing process is important and sometimes it takes time to write even short poems.
