The aftermath of another afternoon of finger painting (this time it was the whole table that was painted, not just a piece of paper). It's a good thing the laundry room is downstairs and has a big ol' sink in it!

Some of my fav times with Em are spent in my kitchen :)

The long pieces came out strong and straight, which is good. Better a little messy than starved.

Edited Hubble Space Telescope image of the galaxy Messier 59. Color/processing variant.

Original caption: This luminous orb is the galaxy NGC 4621, better known as Messier 59. As this latter moniker indicates, the galaxy was listed in the famous catalogue of deep-sky objects compiled by French comet-hunter Charles Messier in 1779. However, German astronomer Johann Gottfried Koehler is credited with discovering the galaxy just days before Messier added it to his collection. Modern observations show that Messier 59 is an elliptical galaxy, one of the three main kinds of galaxies along with spirals and irregulars. Ellipticals tend to be the most evolved of the trio, full of old, red stars and exhibiting little or no new star formation. Messier 59, however, bucks this trend somewhat; the galaxy does show signs of star formation, with some newborn stars residing within a disc near the core. Located in the 2000-strong Virgo Cluster of galaxies within the constellation of Virgo (The Virgin), Messier 59 lies approximately 50 million light-years away from us. This image was taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope’s Advanced Camera for Surveys.

The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has captured this vivid image of spiral galaxy Messier 77 — a galaxy in the constellation of Cetus, some 45 million light-years away from us. The streaks of red and blue in the image highlight pockets of star formation along the pinwheeling arms, with dark dust lanes stretching across the galaxy’s starry centre. The galaxy belongs to a class of galaxies known as Seyfert galaxies, which have highly ionised gas surrounding an intensely active centre.

While fellow homeschooling mom, Kris, was here with her kids, for their bi-weekly "jam session," I made use of the time and good company to make a batch of kale chips for Darren and Joe to take with them to Joe's Cleveland tournament this weekend. "Massaging" the kale is a bit of a messy endeavor, but the final product was rated "yumtastic!"

The marinade for these was sesame seeds, a little olive oil, coconut water, dates, red bell peppers, sundried tomato, curry powder, fresh garlic, shallot, apple cider vinegar and sea salt... blended together and "massaged" into the kale... then dehydrated for about 24 hours at 105 degrees.

It was that kind of day

Spiral galaxy Messier 82 has long been known for its remarkable starburst activity, caused by interactions with its near neighbour Messier 81, and has been the subject of intense study for many years. On 21 January 2014, astronomers at the University of London Observatory in London, UK, pointed their telescope at the galaxy and spied something peculiar… an intensely bright spot seemed to have suddenly appeared within the galaxy [1]. This bright spot is actually a new supernova known as SN 2014J — the closest supernova to Earth in recent decades! Since its discovery, SN 2014J has been confirmed as a type Ia supernova, making it the closest of its type to Earth in over 40 years (since SN 1972E) [2]. This new NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image is set against a previous mosaic of Messier 82 from 2006 (heic0604a), and shows the supernova as an intensely bright spot towards the bottom right of the frame. Type Ia supernovae are even more exciting for astronomers, as they have particular properties that we can use to probe the distant Universe. They are used as standard candles to measure distances and help us understand the scale of the cosmos. Catching such a supernova so soon after its explosion is very unusual; this early discovery will enable astronomers to explore its evolution in great detail, and to potentially infer the properties of its progenitor star. Messier 82 is several times more luminous than our Milky Way. Because it is only 12 million light-years away, it is one of the brighter galaxies in the northern sky. It can be found in the constellation of Ursa Major (The Great Bear). The supernova is currently visible through a modest amateur telescope, so why not see if you can spot it from your back garden? The image shown here was taken on 31 January 2014 with Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3. This image is inset into a photo mosaic of the entire galaxy taken in 2006 with Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys. Notes [1] The supernova was discovered at 19:20 GMT by a team of students — Ben Cooke, Tom Wright, Matthew Wilde and Guy Pollack — assisted by Dr Steve Fossey. The supernova is visible in pre-discovery images of the galaxy. [2] Supernova SN 1987A, discovered in 1987, was closer to Earth than SN 2014J, but it was a type II supernova rather than a type Ia. The combination of a large appetite, and lack of napkins leads to a mess.

This globular cluster is pretty special. It’s the forth globular cluster for apparent dimension and the second from my position after M4. It is located in the constellation of Sagittarius. Its altitude from horizon is 27°. Unfortunatly i didn’t have time to integrate it and stars are a little elongated, next year i’ll take my revenge 😈. ——————— Equipment:

Day 64 (3/6/14)- Life is Messy :) We can choose how we decide to handle the messes that life throws our way. Today I enjoyed being Messy and getting to finger paint for this shot. I also used some of the lighting techniques I learned from class so it was good practice.

"Nothing is perfect. Life is Messy. Relationships are complex. Outcomes are uncertain. People are irrational. " How true this is lol. ODC Messy.

Today I am thankful for fun shots, new lighting inspiration, and a quiet night in.
