Mythical Creatures was the 2016 theme for the 4th annual student fundraiser fashion show known as MERGE. Our team consisted of staff at D+B, VSP Global, Shaw Carpet, and Patcraft, and we had four hours to create a costume from raw materials given to us at the beginning.
The mythical creature we chose was a vampire and the entire costume was made from commercial interior material samples: carpet backing for the cape, decorative wall covering for the bodice, glass tile for the belt, and wall protection for the skirts.
It was held in the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria at the Sacramento Central Branch and was attended by approximately 200 people. Each year the costumes are more elaborate and technical, and we couldn't be more proud of the talented people we have here in Sacramento.

Wool Merchant John Goodman built Roundhay Hall in the 1820's. In fact it wasn't called Roundhay Hall then, it was called Allerton Hall. It changed his name when Sir Edard Allen Brotherton, a chemical manufacturer, MP (Wakefield), Mayor of Wakfield and Lord Mayor of Leeds bought it during the Great War. Today it is a private Spire Hospital.During the Second World War the hall became a 62 bed Annexe to Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) It must have been a grand place to stay during difficult times. Even though it is now a private hospital, it still retains much of the elegance that it had.
9 Image merge and had to be done that way with it being so bright out side. To get the room properly exposed and to capture the scene in the window I had to use more photos then I wanted to but like how it came out.

This is a merge of 12 photos, although I took 22 of the entire scene. I must have worked at least 3 hours on it (mostly because it was a huge file and my computer is slow). It was one of those moments sitting at home watching the storm roll in and wondering if I should go. Seeing the sunset start got me running for the camera and driving quickly to a high point. Within 1 minute I took all 22 photos of the scene, but of course the clouds did move in that time. It was tough to line everything up. I'm pretty happy with the result. Check it out large. Just disregard the powerlines on the left side, those didn't work at all in the merge.
You'll notice on the right is the rain of the storm and the left has the sunset. I love the contrast of the storm clouds under the bright blue sky. The storm subsided within 30 minutes after I took this photo, so I was fortunate to get it.

Chimes ring from loud speakers,
Spreading invisible ripples
Over shore and fallow field,
Echoing back from terraced hills
If you'll remember how
Initial drops of rain
Excite expanding geometries
Across bodies of water
But morning sun has emerged
From silver-tinted sea and sky,
And air clearing like breath
From glass reverberates with words--
TOWN CITIZENS--Zens--zens...
Echoes mix and syllables merge--
GOOD--zens--MORN--zens--NING--
Zens--ning--sense--ning--sensing
If you'll remember now
Monks immersed in chanting,
How meaning ripples outward
In receding geometries of rhythm
Silence without quality of burden,
Like evening snow, returns,
Waves resemble dreaming animals
With chests billowing in trembles
Tide-pool epiphanies
Of colored shell and smooth rock,
Woven runes of gliding hawks,
Sand, debris and, somewhere, smoke
If you'll remember how
Spattered stars have sparked design,
How memory, when stirred again,
Will chime and echo on--
GEOMETRIES OF RHYTHM--Thm--thm
WAVES--thm--RESEMBLE--them
SUN--Semble--EMERGED--semble--them
IF--Merged--YOU'LL--symbol--them...
I couldnt stop myself from clicking this picture, some times people would wonder why I take so many BLUE pictures - cant help it though....
The sea was getting merged with the sky and it was beautiful watching both in such a great day...
An elephant and a tiger face off in the wild. I had to merge two files as I didn't have a wide enough lens handy for this picture.
Both were shot with the Olympus EM5 Mark II, and the Olympus 40-150 f/2.8 PRO lens.
IIDA Northern California - Sacramento City Center Merge Event. The challenge was to create haute couture using only donated architectural materials: Tandus carpet tile, Humanscale mesh chair fabric, Arc Com upholstery fabric in flamingo, and Johnsonite silver rubber base. Oh, and they only had 3 hours. Photo by Diane Wu.
I found this while looking for a picture of some yeast! Photo array of pixel-by-pixel colour swaps I made last year.
