A sabo dam along Kali Gandol.
Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi - in 2004 an area of 6,410 hectares around Mount Merapi was established as a national park. The decision of the Ministry of Forestry to declare the park has been subsequently challenged in court by The Indonesian Forum for Environment, on grounds of lack of consultation with local residents. Following the 2010 eruption, three Indonesian government departments declared a prohibited zone which nobody can permanently stay and no infrastructure is allowed in several villages.

Merapi Lava Tour. Sand mining seems to be the principal activity around the Sabo dams where the cold lava flow carrying sand, boulders and debris are contained by the barriers during heavy torrential rain. The unusual volume of tephra ejected during the last eruption also contributed to the bulk of sediments.

This is supposed to be the best and closest vista point to view Mount Merapi with only 6 km distance to its summit. Unfortunately, the supposedly breathtaking picturesque vista was overcast with heavy clouds.

Makam Mbah Maridjan, Perkuburan Dusun Slunen, Sleman. The final place where Mbah Maridjan (Mas Penewu Surakso Hargo) was laid to rest. The spiritual guardian or "gatekeeper" of the Mount Merapi volcano was one of the victims of the volcano's last eruption in 26 October 2010.
