Almost 10 years ago since my last visit to magnificent Merapi Mountain in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This is taken from the closest view point at Bukit Klangon. Merapi is one of the world's most active volcanoes, last erupted on March 13th 2023, spewing out smoke and ash that blanketed villages near the crater. Thanks to Ady who accompanied me since 3 AM for reaching this site 😊
Thank you for visiting my stream. Kindly leave your comments.

'L' for LARGE on black please!
Taken from the Borobudur Temple. For the little story, it was a great disappointment when we went to the Borobudur Temple to find out that the top of the temple was closed for cleaning and restoration (because of the last volcanic eruption of Mount Merapi which has caused some damage). So you won't get the 'classic' Borobudur shot! However, I will soon post a shot from a different angle!
Taken right from the top of emergency bunker of Mount Merapi. Seeing the lava crater that becoming larger, I can not imagine the last major eruption impacts that happened in 2010.
Few days after this visit, the mountain erupted again - although this time only sand and small stones. Thank you for visiting this picture, kindly leave your comments. Have a good day !

Mount Merapi, Gunung Merapi in Indonesian language, is a conical volcano located on the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
It is the most active volcano in Indonesia and has erupted regularly since 1548. Its name means Mountain of Fire. It is very close to the city of Yogyakarta, and thousands of people live on the flanks of the volcano.
Although smoke can be seen emerging from the mountain top at least 300 days a year, several eruptions have caused fatalities. Hot gas from a large explosion killed 43 people in 1994, mostly in the town of Muntilan, west of the volcano. Another large eruption occurred in 2006, shortly before the Yogyakarta earthquake. In light of the hazards that Merapi poses to populated areas, it has been designated as one of the Decade Volcanoes.
In April 2006, increased seismicity at more regular intervals and a detected bulge in the volcano's cone indicated that fresh eruptions were imminent. Authorities put the volcano's neighboring villages on high alert and local residents prepared for a likely evacuation. On April 19 smoke from the crater reached a height of 400 metres, compared to 75 metres the previous day. On April 23, after nine surface tremors and some 156 multifaced quakes signalled movements of magma, some 600 elderly and infant residents of the slopes were evacuated.
By early May, active lava flows had begun. On May 11, with lava flow beginning to be constant, some 17,000 people were ordered to be evacuated from the area and on May 13, Indonesian authorities raised the alert status to the highest level, ordering the immediate evacuation of all residents on the mountain. Many villagers defied the dangers posed by the volcano and returned to their villages, fearing that their livestock and crops would be vulnerable to theft. Activity calmed by the middle of May.
On May 27, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck roughly 30 miles southwest of Merapi, killing at least 5,000 and leaving at least 200,000 people homeless in the Yogyakarta region, heightening fears that Merapi will blow The quake did not appear to be a long-period oscillation, a seismic disturbance class that is increasingly associated with major volcanic eruptions. A further 11,000 villagers were evacuated on June 6 as lava and superheated clouds of gas poured repeatedly down its upper slopes. The pyroclastic flows are known locally as wedhus gembel (Javanese for shaggy goat).
I never realize until today I saw and witnesses by my own self that my home village is near with merapi volcano , the most active volcano in Indonesia
Before everything else, Thank you all for the Explore :)

I recently travelled to Yogjakarta,
One of my biggest disappointment was the way the temples close before sunset (sad because we all know sunset is the best shooting time)
And, honestly, the amount of people visiting them is insane.
When you go visit the Cambodian temples like Angkor Wat, you can easily take a gorgeous shot with nobody in the shot, (nor disturbing you taking that shot for the matter)
Anyways,
we quickly moved away from the main temples and visited Prambanan.
This temple is gorgeous, but the park that Indonesian's built around it is nothing short of ugly.
So, a cool shot of it is hard. (probably why theirs is so few photographs, and nearly no good photos of the temples in Jogja.
I took this shot of the Merapi volcano during a jeep adventure along the eruption and lava trails, and then added the Prambanan temple in the shot with the magic of computer things xD
Stay tuned, for new shots soon.
As always, My photographs are available as prints and digital use.

Yogyakarta 8 November: Mount Merapi continues to belch a huge column of hot gas and ash kilometers into the sky, nearly two weeks after awakening from its slumber on October 26.
The Magelang district west of the volcano is particularly badly affected with a heavy layer of ash covering houses, trees, fields and streets. The district is currently harboring some 98,000 people who have fled their homes. According to Indonesia's central emergency management authority (BNPB), there are now 278,000 displaced, with the confirmed death toll at 141.

Merapi is a volcanic mountain in central java. Some observers said that Merapi is the most volcanic active mountain in the world. this picture was taken in November 1, 2010 from Kaliurang, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Here you can hide away, walking, swimming and reading books, in between adventures ranging from exploring Borobudur and Prambanan, to assaulting the base of Merapi in a jeep.
Fabulous food and evening drinks, chatting with staff and regular guests - and taking the opportunity to catch up with local friends during the day, with day passes for lunch, drinks and swimming in the afternoons.
Descent to Kaliurang. It is the the most iconic volcano on the island of Java.
