Merapi's eruption in 2010 killed every human life in a spectrum of dozen of kilometres. Luckily, 6 years after, the vegetation is back. Merapi is the most active volcano in Indonesia and according to the experts, it may erupt soon again.

Merapi Lava Tour. I was told a day earlier by the cab driver there's a stone at Mount Merapi that looks like a human face which they call alien. I was expecting a Pompeii-like human statue. I tried starring at several angles to figure out the human face, but still unconvinced. The boulder (watu manten) was carried along during previous cold lava flow and deposited at its current site.
In many town and villages below the volcano, streets are lined which large mounds of volcanic ash and debris.

This elederly man summed up the people's relationship with the volcano: "Mearpi is like a family member. When he is angry he destroys our homes but when he is quiet, we have rich soil, good harvests and we are happy".

briefing tim relawan dari ProFauna, mahasiswa UGM dan komunitas Joglo Abang di kantor dinas kehutanan, kabupaten Sleman (Selasa, 23 November 2010). agendanya adalah melakukan penyisiran bangkai-bangkai hewan ternak milik warga di dekat puncak gunung merapi, mendatanya dan kemudian membakarnya agar tidak menjadi biang penyebaran bibit penyakit.
Awalnya kami ingin memberikan bantuan secara langsung untuk korban merapi, ada kabar dari teman daerah muntilan deket ketep belum mendapat bantuan, eh di tengah jalan terdengar suara menggelegar seperti petir, banyak kendaraan dengan kecepatan tinggi berlawanan arah.. waaa... ternyata merapi meletus lagi, padahal jarak kami sudah agak dekat sekitar 10km dari puncak...
