The Mountain of Fire holds its title as the most active volcano in Indonesia. I used to wonder why would anyone live along the fringes of such volcanic hazards. Wouldn't they know better of their safety? It was only after having hiked this volcano, did I understand. The towering presence of Merapi was difficult to deny. There was something awfully magnetic and captivating about it.
