this picture struck a chord with me because it forcefully reminded me of my childhood. My earliest memories take place in cars on darkening highways...

... I seem incapable of changing the way I decorate our tree. The only change is the lights, as the 40 year old ones died last year and had to be replaced.

This item comprises part of a collection which is inscribed on the UNESCO Australian Memory of the World Register - The Convict Records of Queensland 1825 – 1842

This series consists of monthly returns of land under cultivation at the Moreton Bay penal settlement. These returns were kept in compliance with regulation 26.6 of 1829.

Each page entry includes the general heading: "Monthly returns of the land under cultivation at the settlement of Moreton Bay", from the first to the last day of the month, and the year. Details are then included of the number of acres for each type of agricultural land and produce for each Establishment (Brisbane Town and Eagle Farm). The headings of columns for produce and land vary, but always include Fallow, Pasture and Totals. Other headings include maize, wheat, break-ups, and potatoes. Totals for each Establishment and overall totals are included. There is an unused Remarks section, and from 31 October1830 - 30 September 1835 the entries are signed by Commandant Clunie.

This volume contains six series of returns. The returns for land cultivation do not follow in strict chronological order in the volume. The returns (in abridged format) for November 1836 - April 1937 appear at the bottom of the pages of agricultural produce returns for those months. The returns for October 1836 - March 1836 follow in the usual format across the page, but are in reverse order in the volume. The return of 1 September 1829 is next in the volume, and indicates the original start of the entries. The entries continue from this point in chronological order until January 1836. The return for February 1836 comes after the half-yearly baptism returns.

Memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose.

~The Wonder Years (A television show)

While sorting and assembling books today, I found one of my school’s time diaries. It was a great pleasure and a wonderful flash back of the past years while going through the pages of it :)

It is (or was, atleast) beautifully sunny and not cold either...brought thoughts of spring...and then summer...to mind...so I thought I'd post a few shots of the Cosmos I grew last year. They kept budding and flowering into November - wonderfully hardy and long-lived, bringing colour to my life all that time...
