This couple was part of the KC Ren Fest Viking crew...I haven't figured out all the ins and outs of the different crews, but they all bring a certain flare to the festivities. For me the Ren Fest is a wonderful opportunity to hone my people picture skills because there are so many interesting characters and by and large most people expect to have their picture taken...this makes a huge difference for me. Image just a touch underexposed...tricky backlit scene, but I'm pleased overall with how this turned out. Minolta Autocord LMX on TriX 400 film. Self-developed with D76 at 1:1.

My old Pentacon six TL was gradually losing reliable shutter speeds and I was looking for a replacement until finding a rather nice used Mamiya 6RB67 Pro this summer. I shot the first 2 rolls of 120 film with it in summer and have just processed them - hence the following uploads.

A westbound Conrail empty hopper train has just exited the recently enlarged tunnel at Galitzen, PA. February 7, 1998 with SD40-2 6410 in the lead. Conrail had little more than a year left before CSX & NS would split it down the middle (sort of) with the Pittsburgh Line becoming part of Norfolk Southern. The 6410 went to CSX becoming the infamous 8888 of the May 21, 2001 runaway in Ohio. The second unit #6406 also went to CSX and became their 8887. The trailing 6399 went to Norfolk Southern becoming that road's 3353. There is a bit of a light flare at the top from when I loaded the 120 film into the Mamiya film back (it was cold and I was shaking quite a bit). Notice that the crew has very wisely placed their bag of ice on the nose of the unit to keep it from melting inside the warm cab.

There's just something special about the colours you get with slide film.

Whenever I crop a picture into square format, I am imagining that I am taking a picture with Hasselblad.

I know there are other medium format cameras that will take 6x6 pictures and this is just my illusion.

You are what you shoot with. This is my prejudice.

The photographic world is divided into two groups of people: the Hasselblad film users and the rest of us.

I first fell in love with analog photography as a child, so maybe I'm a little bias - but there's just something magical about film that digital will never be able to compete with. The way film handles light and color just has such a special quality about it...

I've tried every form of analog photography from pinhole to using a massive 8x10 camera, and each format has its own "brand" of magic, and personally I must say that medium format is my favorite <3 I've become obsessed.

Brittany and I went out with the intent to get moody overcast photos, but as Texas is famous for - the weather changed in an instant. So we pulled over on the side of the road to shoot these with the little time we had Right as we were getting ready to get the shot a little ladybug landed on her finger

What's ya'lls favorite kind of format? Digital, analog? 35mm, large format, ect. ?

I took a similar shot last March on 35mm film, and although the focus was out the result was good enough to keep trying with analog. I took medium format this time and made sure of the focus. The only issue is that Cinestill 800T is tungsten balanced, and without tungsten temperatures come out incredibly blue. Actually, though, I don't mind it. I shot at EI3200 and pushed the development using the "rodinal push" technique. This has given grain, but it's very acceptable. I have also found that cinestill 800t needs at least 2 extra stops of exposure for reciprocity.
