[TUNE]

Wake up to a cloudy day

Dark rolls in and it starts to rain

Staring out to the cage-like walls

Time goes by and the shadows crawl

Crushin' candy crushin' pills

Got no job, mom pays my bills

Textin' ex's get my fill

Sweatin' bullets, Netflix-chills

World's out there singin' the blues

Twenty more dead on the evening news

Think to myself "really, what's the use?"

I'm just like you, I was born to lose

Why oh why can't you just fix me?

When all I want's to feel numb

But the medication's all done

Why oh why does God hate me?

When all I want's to get high

And forget this so-called life

I am so freakin' bored

Nothin' to do today

I guess I'll sit around and medicate (medicate).

Fox squirrels on a spring day in Ann Arbor, Monday June 6th, 2022. Lots of mommas who are still nursing their little ones, who are definitely starting to make their way on campus. Also saw a few bunnies and a squirrel with mange over by UMMA. Pretty sure this was one of the ones I had treated before - maybe Snow White. I gave her a second dose of the medicated pecans. Gave this poor momma some meds and will hope to give her the second dose next week. Wishing you joy, health and peace wherever you are.

So as I sit here posting this, my sweet 13 week old puppy is fast asleep, propped against me for comfort.

This is not the shot I planned for this week. I was going to use the puppy in the shot... But not this.

Yesterday, while playing, she slipped and fell and broke her right back tibia. So now she is in pain, stressed, splinted and medicated. And myself and my One are also in pain, stressed and wish we WERE medicated.

I took this photo from as 'up high' as I could get my arm without disturbing Telula, who is finally sleeping again. She's even doing that creepy, 'sleeping with her eyes open' thing.

Please pray she heals quickly with no complications and that Tony & I emotionally get through what will be a tough few weeks.

While I was driving home from church, reflecting on troubles and peace in the past week, cloudy skies began to break, with light again shining. Wintering trees lifted branches in praise or prayer. I stopped my car to capture this picture. The following song played on the radio: Unbroken - "The Cure" - www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JKXhxFwVZc

We're all related, brothers and strangers

The king and the beggar bleed the same

We've all got a sickness, a terminal condition

We medicate it but the pain won't go away

See the eyes of a million faces

Looking for it in a million places

Only one can save us, Jesus

You are the cure

Everybody's searching for it

Everybody's reaching out

Trying to grab a hold of something real

You are the cure

Only you can satisfy us

Fill up the void inside us

Never been a heart you couldn't heal

Romans 12:2

Do not allow this world to mold you in its own image. Instead, be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind. As a result, you will be able to discern what God wills and whatever God finds good, pleasing, and complete.

Back Story .........................................

5:20AM when I pulled into The Dog Palace driveway.

Rocky and Mama were quick to greet me at the gate.

Both received breakfast and a special treat .................

Today all dogs under my care start their monthly meds.

Heart worm, mange, tics, fleas and intestinal parasites.

This happens every month just like clock work and every

dog/med is recorded in a journal. Dog Supplies: medicated shampoo, toenail clippers, hair brushes and kibble were left

with the nuns.

As you can see in this photo Mama is being chased by a

bunch of Hooligans.

She's very clever at getting everybody to participate in her

game of catch me if you can. And they do, then it all starts

again. Notice how many dogs now play on the roof ? ... ;-)~

Tomorrow more dogs at The Tri-Pod Temple will receive the

same meds and generous portions of quality food ..................

Taken in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan on a snowy Winter's day - Wednesday February 12th, 2020. One squirrel over by Social Work seems to have some puffiness in his eyes - I hope it does not get worse. Saw another with mange on the Diag - but he only got a bit of the medicated pecan before running off!

the ongoing misadventures of Simon:

This cat is going to give me gray hair!

Last Friday, I call all the cats in for dinner. Everyone shows up but Simon.

I don't get worried right away when that happens. Sometimes it takes a couple of minutes for them to respond, and since his 3 day disappearance back in the spring, and him showing back up like nothing had even happened, I feel better knowing that he can obviously take care of himself.

So. I feed everyone else and call again. No Simon.

Larry and I go out to grab a bite to eat, and when I get home I try calling again.......nothing.

Now I'm getting a little more concerned. After calling and calling, I finally gave up and went back in the house.

A few hours later I went back out and tried again.

In the quiet of the night, I thought I heard a faint cry. I go back in the house and get a flashlight. Larry and I go back out and try to locate where the crying is coming from.

Nothing. It was dark as hell and you couldn't see a thing, and the crying had stopped.

I finally gave up, said a little prayer that Simon would find his way back to the house, and went up to bed.

Next thing you know, my cell phone is ringing. It's Larry.

Get my step-son, grab a flashlight and come out back. He found the cat........waaaaaaaaaaay up a tree!

So there we were in the dark, with the extension ladder.

My stepson is holding the ladder, I'm holding the flashlight, and Larry is about 35ft. up trying to pry Simon off of a branch.

By some small miracle, nobody got hurt!

That was last week.

Yesterday, Simon was lying on the couch sleeping. I didn't think anything of it.

He takes naps many afternoons there.

But, when Raven decided that she wanted to lay on the couch and tried to get Simon to move by barking , and he didn't move like he usually does when she gets in his face, I realized something wasn't right.

When I picked him up and set him on the floor, he wouldn't put any weight at all on his right front leg, and I could see that the top part of the leg was completely swollen.

After carefully feeling to make sure that nothing was broken, I realized he had most likely been bitten by something.

Off to the vets

Sure enough...there were puncture wounds.

I can't be sure what bit him...it could have been one of the other cats, or something from back in the woods.

He got a rabies booster, plus an antibiotic. He also got some pain medication....the reason why his pupils are so large here.

I'm happy to report that he's doing much better today!

Yet another busy day at work - just a few minutes to see my squirrel friends on two brief trips around campus. I did see Lefty - my three pawed squirrel. Had not seen her in a while - glad she is doing well. Taken in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan on a mild late Winter's day - Friday March 6th, 2020. Saw a few squirrels with eye problems - and I hooked them up with another medicated pecan. I hope these are getting better.

I have not been able to get out and get new shots for a while now. I slipped a disc in my back last week trying to rip a rose plant out by the roots. Ouch! Not nice. But it is getting better. As I said the other day I am getting a little tired of these bokeh heads (I hope you are not). I think I have brought them as far as I can. Am heading back through old images - this one is from a few weeks back - trying to see what the next step will be in this photographic journey.

Thanks to all for your kind comments and support.

Have a ding-dong Wednesday - surprise yourself - do something crazy.

Now on Twitter - follow me!

One of the things I love about living in a multi-cat household is the opportunity to watch all of the different personalities interact. Camille has had a "wild" streak since she came to us (with 4 kittens in tow). She doesn't sleep with the other cats, and being allowed her freedom to go outside of the utmost importance. But when I take Otis on a walk with the leash, Camille shows up in what appears to be a protective and/or sharing manner. Here she is sitting on the top of the stone wall watching Otis self-medicate on catnip.

Fox squirrels on a warm spring day in Ann Arbor, Thursday May 12th, 2022. Lots of mommas who are nursing their babies in their nests. The Juveniles are starting to make their way on campus. I thought that Midge (who has no fur on its tail) needed another round of medicated pecans. So I started her up with that. She lives on the Diag between Hatcher and Mason Hall Also saw a red squirrel and my first squirrel pancakes of the season on the warm day. Wishing you joy, health and peace wherever you are.

Pictures from an overcast and rainy late Winter's day on campus - Thursday March 18th, 2021. Super busy week, but I wanted to make sure I saw my squirrels friends before the week was out. Got some more medicated pecans and hooked up some squirrels on the Diag and the Law Quad. Some look a bit worse for wear, but we all do this year, right? Maybe nothing a nice haircut couldn't fix. Sending love and virtual hugs from Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Fox squirrels at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on Wednesday January 11th, 2023. It is also the day I make sure I hook up my mange patients with their medicated pecans. Some of them are starting to show some good improvement, and that is nice. Here is wishing you joy, health and peace wherever you are.

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to view, comment, and fave my photos

Taken in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan on a mild late Winter's day - Tuesday February 25th, 2020. I did notice two squirrels between Social Work and Martha Cook who seem to have Conjunctivitis or similar eye malady. I am giving one of them a medicated pecan that will hopefully give them a boost to knock out the parasites. Unfortunately, it will not cure their eye issues - but I will watch them. I was able to get a medicated pecan for the one who was worse off. Fingers crossed!

Ran onto campus for my sixth "Squirrel Run" at the University of Michigan. The campus was strangely empty - on this overcast and cold Spring day. In the Governor's order, we do have the freedom to participate in outdoor activities - as long as we keep a social distance of 6 feet. I keep at least enough room for the Holy Spirit to drive a car between me and anyone I am with. So today, I went to campus to see and feed my squirrel friends. In regards to the squirrels it was another banner day and I took a lot of pictures during my short time on campus! Besides seeing all the squirrels and feeding them (with a big old bag of peanuts), it was quite exciting. I did see Lefty (my favorite three pawed squirrel) behind Martha Cook. I saw the group of juveniles who are living in Hatcher Library in the brickwork. I am going to call them the Hatchlings and there are four of them! They are starting to explore away from the nest - which is kinda cool. I also got a medicated pecan (my last one) to Waddles over on the Law Quad. He has lots of scabs on his tail - hope this helps. Be safe everyone - we will get through this. Sending love and virtual hugs from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Pictures from the University of Michigan on Wednesday April 22nd, 2020.

They are getting anxious as the water warms. We are waiting till we know the water will stay above 55 degrees before we start to feed them though. Ok! It's Now Explanation time!!

All the books say that Comets and Koi cannot digest complex foods such as we feed them in warmer weather. The packages of food state not to be fed under 55 degrees F. So they eat algae which we allow to flourish in the winter, and they get their fill and grow on this during the winter, until that time when the weather warms their water past 55 degrees again. Then we feed a medicated food, to rid them of any possible parasites they may have picked up during the winter months, and parasites that also become more active again in the warmer water! So spring is pond cleanup time for us, we systematically kill back or minimize the algae growth and clean leaves from last year from the bottom of the pond.( so it wont keep clogging the fine beads in our bubble bead filter which we turn off during the winter. These are the same type of filters used to provide crystal clear water in a swimming pool) So right now I'm running the big pump again but bypassing the bubble bead and just keep filtering out the overage of dying algae, which is killed back by increasing the salt level! Not to much or it will kill the growing plants! It's really a very delicate balance!!!!!!!

A wheat based simple cereal type food is being fed now (cheerios is perfect)

I've named all the big Koi in the pond for you, in their own note box along with their ages, all 5 years old except Jess the blue and orange girl who is 6 years old and all these others are either the smaller breed of comets, or 1 and 2 year old baby Koi!

I don't ever mind you asking questions and I hope that this has been some help!

One should consider being medicated before, and definitely after, attempting to capture a decent image of a common nighthawk on the wing. When one is in the proper frame of mind, the challenge can be enjoyable in spite of the minuscule number of keepers.

I have always wanted to do a Tron themed shot for a while but never knew what to do, but gave in today and just gave it a go. I didn't have access to put a bike in the studio so i just had to lie a mattress on its side and use it that way to suspend me correctly into the right position. Worked quite well but i cheated a lot for this one as i'm not feeling well and didn't want to spend too long on it. Looks better as a thumbnail as it's not great quality but whats done is done.

Im off to medicate myself now with as much as possible. See you guys later...

We featured Ziggy (the cat inside the cage) on our Facebook page today and I included this picture of Alexander Hamilton in the comments. My mom suggested I might share this photo other places e.g. Flickr.

I didn't mention this in Ziggy's write-up but he is a bit of a beast when he comes to board. He weighs about 18 pounds and has urinary issues and so we keep him in this large cage when he stays with us. He's on three medications that he gets twice a day and it takes three technicians to medicate him. He lunges, hisses and growls and tries to scratch and bite us. But for some reason, he and Alexander Hamilton have become buddies. At one point, I left Ziggy's cage door open so he could get out and walk around and stretch his legs and he and Alexander Hamilton went nose to nose and then both just plopped down on the ground about a foot apart and slow blinked at each other.

Anway, no need to comment - I just thought you might get a kick out of Alexander Hamilton hanging out with Ziggy.

***For those who may be wondering on my Toby's condition...

He's home now with us and is heavily medicated. No real change in his health yet and is still urinating blood. However his appetite is relentless, which is a good thing. But he hasn't been to the bathroom (cell wise) for a couple days. So we are keeping an eye on him for that too.

Not much of a change with his crystals forming and so far... he still has pain when he tries to pee. However it's only been two days that he's been back home. So we need to wait at least a week or two to see if there's any improvement.

My poor boy knows we are worried and is purring up a storm when we pay him any attention (Which is ALL the time as you can imagine) He's affectionate and so schmoozy with us.

He's trying to fight his way through this, you can see that. But he's fustrated and tired and still peeing so much blood. We have to hope the medications will do their job soon? I'll keep you posted....

But I want to deeply THANK everyone who sent us well wishes, prayers and good vibes for our Big Boy Toby. You will never know how touched and humbled I am for all the support you have giving myself and my Toby. I truly appreciate all the wonderful comments of love and concern for him.

From the bottom of my heart... Thank you SO MUCH!! Big hugs to everyone xx :-)

This picture of Skip was the very first thing I posted on Flickr way back on March 5, 2012.

Skip was a bit of a problem child. I got him as a tiny kitten when one of our clients found him in a meadow with no mother or siblings around. He was sick and hadn't been weaned yet. I took him home, medicated him, snuggled with him and fed him and then on the 10th day he got better and promptly turned feral. He was aggressive - not cute, playful, kitten aggressive but full out "fighting for his life" aggressive. I spent more time and went to greater lengths to win Skip's trust than I have with any other animal in my life so when he died at 8 months old he left such a huge hole in my life that I had to get two kittens to help fill it - which is how I ended up with Jimmy and Mack.

Happy Caturday: a picture from our archives

Due to a serious case of clouditis, I decided to self medicate with a fun challenge in processing Hubble data. This here is a 6 panel mosaic in RGB. It was actually a bit of a challenge getting the panels to align and combine properly using PixInsight (18 panels in all). I definitely learned a lot as is the goal with processing these images, and I gotta say I really like the end result! Check out those little interacting galaxies at the bottom, very cool!

Also, who can tell me a good method for removing the halo at lower right? I don't want to just brush it out..

WHO estimates more than 2 million people die every year from breathing in tiny particles present in indoor and outdoor air pollution.

The main findings contained in the new compilation are:

•Persistently elevated levels of fine particle pollution are common across many urban areas. Fine particle pollution often originates from combustion sources such as power plants and motor vehicles.

•The great majority of urban populations have an average annual exposure to PM10 particles in excess of the WHO Air Quality guideline recommended maximum level of 20 µg/m3. On average, only a few cities currently meet the WHO guideline values.

•For 2008, the estimated mortality attributable to outdoor air pollution in cities amounts to 1.34 million premature deaths.

Went to visit the Dr today, I've been feeling really weak and drained lately and my nose has been running like a broken water tap. He basically told me what I kind of knew, I'm sick with the flu. He basically just told me to take paracetamol, so just like any regular patient, I started self-medicating.

I've been eating nothing but soup, throat mints and oranges, only getting up every four hours to take cold & flu tablets. And to do today's 365. I'm sorry for fading in and out guys, I have been such a bad contact, but I promise to catch up very very soon :o)

I just want to shake the sickness off... Hope you're great and in good health :o)

Taken in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan today - Wednesday January 15th, 2020. I did see one (or maybe two) squirrels over on the Law Quad who seem to have mange. I was not able to give the one who is a bit worse off the medicated pecan - that little one was very skittish. I hope to do that tomorrow or Friday.

My 52nd "Squirrel Run" of the year at the University of Michigan since our work from home started to combat COVID-19. Pictures on Tuesday December 1st after the first real snowfall of the season. Few of the squirrels have mange on the Diag, I need to get back so I can hook them up with medicated pecans. The campus was mostly empty as students left for Thanksgiving. The squirrels are getting ready for winter. Sending love and virtual hugs from Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Archives are being raided and what fun I am having!. More self-portraits from photo 101 it appears. The original is printed pretty darn well if I do say so myself. I got alot of richness in the shadows and the textures from the wall are great.

My 53rd "Squirrel Run" of the year at the University of Michigan since our work from home started to combat COVID-19. Pictures on Sunday December 6th, an overcast day in Ann Arbor. Few of the squirrels have mange on the Diag, and I hooked them up with medicated pecans. The campus was mostly empty and the squirrels are getting ready for winter. Sending love and virtual hugs from Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Nice early Summer day in Ann Arbor. Saw lots of fox squirrels out and about in Ann Arbor on Monday July 8th, 2019 at the University of Michigan. So all sorts of things going on. I did not see "Patches O'Houlihan" today - and needed to get him a second medicated pecan. Patches is a squirrel who had lost most of her fur because of mange on the Law Quad. I reached out to the Friends of Wildlife Michigan and they connected me with someone who has worked up some medicated pecans for me to feed the squirrels. I did get the second medicated pecan for "Justin" - named for the youngest team member on the dodgeball team that Patches coaches. I did see "Steve the Pirate" again. He has something on his left paw - and a bald patch on his left side and gets his second pecan on Wednesday. I did see Lefty (the three pawed squirrel) again behind Martha Cook - always good to see her.

Happy days!

Now your nightmare comes to life

Dragged you down below, down to the devil's show

To be his guest forever (peace of mind is less than never)

Hate to twist your mind, but God ain't on your side

An old acquaintance severed (burn the world your last endeavor)

Flesh is burning, you can smell it in the air

'Cause men like you have such an easy soul to steal (steal)

So stand in line while they ink numbers in your head

You're now a slave until the end of time here

Nothing stops the madness turning

Haunting, yearning, pull the trigger

You should've known the price of evil

And it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah

Ooh, it's your fuckin' nightmare

While your nightmare comes to life

Can't wake up in sweat, 'cause it ain't over yet

Still dancin' with your demons (victim of your own creation)

Beyond the will to fight, where all that's wrong is right

Where hate don't need a reason (loathing self-assassination)

You've been lied to just to rape you of your sight

And now they have the nerve to tell you how to feel (feel)

So sedated as they medicate your brain

And while you slowly go insane they tell you

Given with the best intentions

Help you with your complications

You should've known the price of evil

And it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah

No one to call, everybody to fear

Your tragic fate is lookin' so clear, yeah

Ooh, it's your fuckin' nightmare

Ha, ha, ha, ha

Fight (fight), not to fail (fail), not to fall (fall)

Or you'll end up like the others

Die (die), die again (die), drenched in sin (sin)

With no respect for another

Oh

Down (down), feel the fire (fire), feel the hate (hate)

Your pain is what we desire

Lost (lost), hit the wall (wall), watch you crawl (crawl)

Such a replaceable liar

And I know you hear their voices (calling from above)

And I know they may seem real (these signals of love)

But our life's made up of choices (some without appeal)

They took for granted your soul

And it's ours now to steal

As your nightmare comes to life

You should've known the price of evil

And it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah

No one to call, everybody to fear

Your tragic fate is looking so clear, yeah

Ooh, it's your fuckin' nightmare

they are often reminders of memories. and they add myriad textures.

thank you for the book, jon.

***

I had one of those days. or weeks.

my stitches from the mole removal itched and itched, so I took off the band-aids.

I look like a gimpy frankenstein.

I spent all afternoon trying to get jon's latest donations to him. he's down with an injury and the temple dogs need food and medicine.

I transferred the money last week, and it didn't go through, so I called the transfer company, then my bank, then the transfer company, then the transfer company again.

everything went wrong.

both of my computers are sick.

I needed to use a different browser, and it wouldn't open. when it finally did I needed a security code sent to my iPhone. the phone was dead.

but the transfer company tech gave me good instructions.

when I finally sat down on my bed to rest, I discovered that boo, who had been playing out in the rain and mud, found my spot on the bed her place to rest.

it all resolved and the money should get to thailand by the end of the week.

the dogs will be fed and medicated.

...most of my packages are mailed. I actually made cookies and fudge.

the overseas ones will go out after the new year.

I need to wrap the presents for family here.

I need to make a pie.

we'll have potluck dinner christmas eve at my granddaughter's, and christmas morning at my daughter's.

these are the textures of my life right now.

not my favorite season.

: )

loves to you all.

I think I might be mostly off of flickr for a bit more.

life intrudes.
