A new partnership between the College of DuPage Culinary Arts program and Alexian Brothers Hospice combines cooking instruction with support for men and women moving past the death of their spouses. Every semester, David Kramer, Associate Professor of Culinary Arts, and Laura Lerdal, Culinary Market Supervisor and Lab Coordinator, present “Cooking for 1,” a free demonstration or lab that focuses on cooking techniques for one. Participants also have a chance to help each other as they learn to live on their own.

December 18. When John saw me packing my sides for my lunch in plastic baggies, he mentioned I should look into Rubbermaid Lunch Blox. This system is amazing! Each set comes with a blue ice freezer thingy that snaps into place with the containers. What you're looking at here is the salad kit (the large container) and two sides from the sandwich kit (one with hard boiled eggs, the other with those halo oranges), it's all snapped together so I can pick the entire thing up as a unit, and I put a freezer pack in the middle and bottom to ensure everything stays cold. The salad container - you might be able to tell - has a smaller divided container in it. So I have all the greens and veggies in the big part, the smaller part lifts out and has my fake chicken, beans, cheez, and salad dressing (which inside it's own sealed container - you can see it on the left). So very happy with this entire system so far!
