Where modernism meets history.

--

The Bundeswehr Military History Museum (German: Militärhistorisches Museum der Bundeswehr) is the military museum of the German Armed Forces, the Bundeswehr, and one of the major military history museums in Germany. It is located in a former military arsenal in the Albertstadt which is part of Dresden. After a long history of switching titles and approaches to military history, the museum was re-opened in 2011 with a new internal and external concept. The original building, the armory, was built between 1873-1876 and became a museum in 1897. Originally the Saxon armory and museum, the building has served as a Nazi museum, a Soviet museum and an East German museum which reflected the region's shifting social and political positions over the last 135 years. In 1989, the museum was closed because the newly unified German state was unsure how the museum would fit into the history being created. By 2001, feelings regarding the museum had shifted and an architectural competition was held for an extension which would cause visitors to reconsider the way they think about war.

Yesterday, I photographed Louise, a female athlete from Stuttgart. On a regular basis, she practices road cycling, kayaking and running - many great sports that can be done outside.

Instead of photographing her on a road bike again, we came up with the idea of kayak photographs, as there are not many pictures of it, at least we could not find many professional photographs on the web. So we met at her boats club during one of the warmest days of November, to catch some last golden sun rays and autumnal leaves on the trees.

An architectural series of an anthroposophic building in Dornach, Switzerland.

The Goetheanum is the world center for the anthroposophical movement.

The building was designed by Rudolf Steiner and named after Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. It includes two performance halls (1500 seats), gallery and lecture spaces, a library, a bookstore, and administrative spaces for the Anthroposophical Society; neighboring buildings house the society's research and educational facilities. Conferences focusing on themes of general interest or directed toward teachers, farmers, doctors, therapists, and other professionals are held at the center throughout the year.

Both the present Goetheanum building and its precursor have been widely cited as masterpieces of modern architecture.

Steiner's architecture is characterized by a liberation from traditional architectural constraints, especially through the departure from the right-angle as a basis for the building plan. For the first Goetheanum he achieved this in wood by employing boat builders to construct its rounded forms; for the second Goetheanum by using concrete to achieve sculptural shapes on an architectural scale. The use of concrete to achieve organically expressive forms was an innovation for the times; in both buildings, Steiner sought to create forms that were spiritually expressive.

"SORRY FOR WHAT I SAID WHEN I WAS HUNGRY"

A photo series of a beautiful designed burger restaurant Burgerheart Franchise GmbH in the heart of Stuttgart city. I love the authentic vintage design in which you can enjoy juicy vegan, vegetarian and meat burgers. The combination of funny statements, the urban vintage look, modern lighting concepts and greenery makes every dinner here very comfortable and enjoyable.

I was recently hired by the German magazine Küche&Co, which features luxurious high-end kitchens, to photograph one of their projects in Leonberg, Germany.

Their so-called Kitchen Stories feature the local salesman and his client, embedded into an architectural photography series.

The Catholic parish church of the Resurrection of Christ was built between 1964 and 1970 according to plans by the architect Gottfried Böhm in the Lindenthal district of Cologne. The two architects Wilhelm Jungherz and Klaus Micheel were also involved in the design.

The church building illustrates to a large extent the idea of architecture as sculpture.

The church is excellently integrated into the urban planning. It serves as a vanishing point for the Lindenthal Canal, which is lined with avenues. At the end of the canal, wide staircases form squares, which are bordered on the sides by community buildings. Finally, the church rises together with the parish tower.

The staggered height development with projections and recesses and beveled edges creates a sculptural character. At the north-west corner, the open spiral staircase emphasizes the tower. The plastic effect is reinforced by the calculated use of the material colors, the change from reddish brickwork to light exposed concrete surfaces.

The floor plan is asymmetrical and polygonal. The angles and niches resulting from this in the outline are assigned liturgical tasks. Together with the different room heights and the reduced incidence of light, the room is given liveliness. The building appears as a walk-in sculpture. The windows, also designed by Böhm, are predominantly red-glazed. Together with the reddish masonry, they reinforce the cave-like atmosphere.

The building was attached to the hospital church in 2012–2014.

The hospital courtyard was built on the site of a former Dominican monastery from the late 15th century, which was used as a hospital from 1536 to 1895 after secularization and then served as a police building and prison. After the destruction in World War II, Wolf Irion (1909–1981) built the old hospital courtyard on the property in 1960, which had to be replaced by a new building in 2014.

The Motherland Monument (Ukrainian: Батьківщина-Мати) is a monumental statue in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The sculpture is a part of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.

The stainless steel statue stands 62 m tall upon the museum main building with the overall structure measuring 102 m including its base and weighing 560 tonnes. The sword in the statue's right hand is 16 m long weighing 9 tonnes, with the left hand holding up a 13 by 8 m shield with the State Emblem of the Soviet Union. Initially, the image of the statue was drawn by Vutchetich from Ukrainian painter Nina Danyleiko, after the design was taken over by Borodai from another Ukrainian sculptor Halyna Kalchenko, a daughter of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Nikifor Kalchenko.

The best view this city has to offer. Far off from the well-known Sky Views Observatory, where you are cramped up behind a thick glass layer with many other visitors, this location allows you an immersive vertigo experience on a free balcony with a steep abyss. No glass, no air-conditioning, no other tourists, pure cityscape love!

On my last training ride with Louise, we stopped at a watergate in Poppenweiler to capture a few casual cycling shots. She loves to ride in this area along the river Neckar, so it was obvious to photograph her right there!

We only had 20 minutes to spare due to her tight schedule that day. Nonetheless, we took a handful of usable images. I am looking forward to riding and taking pictures with her again in the future!

The Z-UP building is a z-shaped building (when seen from the air), which is consequently split between an office complex in one part and a residential complex in the other part, following a concept to proportionally grow business and residential areas. The building has been designed by Wolfgang Kergassner architects, built from 2007 to 2009.

It is located on the opposite side of Stuttgart's tallest building, the LBBW-Highrise, which has been featured in this picture series as well.

The church of the Catholic university community in Berrenrather Strasse, Cologne-Sülz, cannot be identified as such at first glance - there is no bell tower to identify it as a sacred building. It was built at the same time and in the same style as the surrounding buildings, late 1960's concrete style, in which the new Cologne University buildings nearby were constructed. However, the concrete is used in a different way, as a design material.
