Back to California ...

After we left Mount Tamalpais, we continued down Panoramic Drive as it fell off the mountain through the fog and ended up at a little resort town called Stinson Beach. Not surprisingly, there is a popular beach on Stinson Beach, though this time of year, it seems more popular with sea birds than people. The birds had gathered in massive flocks formed into oddly uniform parallelograms. I said to Robin, "I didn't even know sea gulls knew geometry."

Two of my favorite things: logarithmic spirals and a hexachromatic color scheme.

This is a 6-color logarithmic spiral, mapped 5x by Newton-Raphson iterator (function: z^3-1). A rotation is applied at each iteration.

Since the iterator maps 3 points to zero, and zero to itself, there are 3^5+1=244 spiral origins here. Not counting the one at infinity.

Singapore Math is written for a classroom full of kids, so we adapt it for home. Usually we can make it work easily, but here it did make sense to have kids line up and take their shoes off to practice early subtraction skills. We used dolls instead. So thank you to Baby Jana #1, Katie, Baby Jana #2, and Baby Asia for filling in.

I found this curious painting in my school tryp to Greece. At first i wanted to shoot the one who made it as I got sick of maths this year but after it seemed unny to me so i take a photo of it.

Enjoy it
