This is my first challenge for Project Quilting Season 11. With the theme of math, I immediately thought of paper piecing because of it's precision, order and numbering. I found this simple mountain pattern (triangle) and worked it into a pillow cover.

santa brought T two sets of tree blocks - one, barkless and in a wide variety of shapes, just to make beautiful natural sculptures, and these, with bark, in more regular shapes and designed for math activities. this set came with a deck of activity cards and we are trying one each day. today i set up groups of three logs, with each group having one a different size from the other two. T removed each different log, placing them on a wood disk. when he had them all, he rummaged through the basket to find matches for each of the odd logs.
Okay students, our math quiz for today is---- the bridge clearance is 11 feet. The truck's height is 12 foot 6 inches. Will truck A fit into bridge B? Oops. No passing grade in math today as this semi truck 'attempted' to get across the Government Bridge over the Mississippi River from Davenport,IA to Rock Island,IL.
in fifth grade, i won a state math award. i also had to take the PSAT that year, that sucked. in middle school, i was one of those kids who had to be shuttled to the high school for math courses. i pretty much kicked the math sections' ass on the ACT then got a perfect score on the IL Prairie State (granted the Prairie State exam is a JOKE. Ex: "Billy has 2 dollars in quarters. He buys gum for 50 cents. How many quarters does he have left?" AND THEY LET YOU USE A CALCULATOR. yet, some people still didn't meet "state expectations". what in the world?!?)
moral of the story: i have always hated math, yet it's always been my best subject. that's what i like to call irony.

Well, it is, indeed, Tuesday. And on Tuesdays, I generally tutor back-to-back math kiddos. I did that today, though with the holiday week it was morning, rather than evening (kinda nice).
My second hour of math was with my algebra scholar and we were working on systems of linear equations with three variables. We did 7 systems as well as reviewing some concepts she continues to work on from the units previous to this one. I will see her again on Friday this week and I left her with four systems (translation for those who blessedly do not have the nerd mutation: groups of three or more equations where you have to manipulate all the equations to solve for all the variables given) left to solve still. Told her we would go over those on Friday
Then I did some Thanksgiving pie-supply shopping and got home a bit late for lunch. As I munched on some kale and a sandwich I decided to solve those systems for myself. You know, for relaxing fun while I ate lunch.
This is what I do for fun now. We call that Tuesday here.
Yeeeeaahhh. I need a job.

T's new math concept, which we will be working on for several weeks, is dividing quantities equally. today we will be serving cookies to teddy and sketchy; T wanted to set the table first. he decided to set a place for himself, which made the activity more difficult as he has been dividing quantities among only two up to this point.
Math was everywhere as children and families attended the Children’s Board Free Tuesday on April 5, 2016 at Glazer Children's Museum. Fans met Digit from Cyberchase and explored STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities. Congratulations to Dania Diaz! Dania’s name was chosen in a random drawing to receive a Cyberchase prize bag with books, DVDs and other PBS Kids goodies.

As promised....my belated Monday face.......i took the half day today to drive Kaileigh and Lileigh to her first pediatrician appt. She is doing just great...and her doctor is the doctor i had chosen for my daughters before they were even born.
i decided to "interview" doctors, to get a feel for them...a friend told me to come along with her when her 4 year old son had his appt...that was my first and only interview....hands down, he was the best...his sense of humor was over the top and it was plain that he ADORED kids...took his time with the mom's to make sure they understood everything...just excellent. My daughter's LOVED to go see him....never fussed about going to the doctor...ever!
it seemed that each time i was due with another baby, his wife would have just had another or be due any time....each time she had boy...i had a girl...by the time i was due with my 3rd child, he was on his 4th son. When i had my 3rd....and it was another girl, i knew that i was going to have to hide from him the morning he came to check her over....i strategically planned a shower at the time he was due in. When i finished up and came out to go to my room, there he was....sitting in a chair, in the hallway, outside the showers!....waiting....
He looked up at me....smiled and said,
"HOW do you make a girl?? I keep trying....just had boy #4........" He is a very funny man.
I have not seen him in many years, until today. He is the same as i remembered, and his eyes got enormous when he saw me there today...wondering WHY! then he yelled, "OMG!! Get over here, i need to give you a hug!!! What are you doing here!!?" When he was told that Kaileigh had her baby, he pushed the attending doctor out of the way, ran to the exam room, said hello to her, and then grabbed Lileigh off the table, hugged her, kissed her, and whispered to her "Your first words to this lady right here must be "convertible
Lexus"!" then smiled and exited the room....he popped back in a moment later and added "with leather seats!" That Dr. D....he crazy!!
