Japanese students consistently have some of the highest math scores in the world. Notice on the blackboard that the Japanese language is used in conveying the equations.

Some have writings on both sides. Made by me and grandfather.

This math equation made my day. I had an answer key but this one wasn't in it and I was still able to solve it. though I'm not sure how often a person needs to know the base of 2 triangles when the combined base and the height are known.

Display was set up with cars already coloured by class placed on the lines of the 'car park'. Number plates were also written by the class and I asked individual children to place their numer plates on the relevant 'car park' level. This was a display to show odds and evens, place value and sequencing.

“I loved maths at high school, it was my favourite subject. When the maths teacher passed away, I took it really badly. I got into an argument with a teacher and got kicked out of the maths exam. Since that was the only subject I cared for, I left school and never went back. I started hanging around the council estate, taking drugs. I had got myself a job at a local printers to fund my drug activities. I’d go out partying a lot, and I started taking heroin to come down. I needed it to get to sleep, so I could function at work. If I stopped taking it, I’d get violently ill. So I continued, less to get a buzz, but more to function. After I got made redundant, I didn’t have an income to fuel my habit. I started committing petty crime. I had a car and I’d take the lads out shoplifting. I had a wife and three kids to support at that point. It wasn’t long until I got caught and convicted.”
