10th birthday cake for a young man who loves maths! All the 'sums' on the top tier equate to 10. My son, who is doing A level maths, wanted to get a bit clever with the equations - but I told him we'd stick to the simple stuff that I can understand!!

“I loved maths at high school, it was my favourite subject. When the maths teacher passed away, I took it really badly. I got into an argument with a teacher and got kicked out of the maths exam. Since that was the only subject I cared for, I left school and never went back. I started hanging around the council estate, taking drugs. I had got myself a job at a local printers to fund my drug activities. I’d go out partying a lot, and I started taking heroin to come down. I needed it to get to sleep, so I could function at work. If I stopped taking it, I’d get violently ill. So I continued, less to get a buzz, but more to function. After I got made redundant, I didn’t have an income to fuel my habit. I started committing petty crime. I had a car and I’d take the lads out shoplifting. I had a wife and three kids to support at that point. It wasn’t long until I got caught and convicted.”
