In a pioneering step towards sustainable offshore wind energy, the BOEM Environmental Studies Program collaborated with the BOEM Office of Renewable Energy Programs on the study: 'Evaluating Effectiveness of Nature Inclusive Design Materials (AT-22-09).'
This project tests innovative materials for cable and scour protection, which are used to safeguard installations and foster marine growth and enhance fish habitats. Aimed at mitigating the environmental impact of offshore wind farms, this study is integral in determining the balance between energy development and marine ecosystem preservation.

For this masterclass and Big Make workshop artist Richard McVetis drew on his love of stitching. The sessions looked at a combination of traditional hand embroidery techniques, taking inspiration from the textures and patterns found in the Institute of Making materials library. Participants explored the slowness and rhythms of hand stitching; the versatility and strengths of embroidery for drawing and mark making; and the pleasure in having time to make.
Materials for making my Thrusters. I think I might finally have enough to make 4 of them. I have about 630 round plates there, but I have more total because some are being used right now. There are about 400 1x2 plates, but as with my round bits, some are being used right now, so I actually have more.
