In the Venetian tradition the mask soon became a symbol of independence and disobedience to all social norms dictated by the Most Serene Republic of Venice.
The masks of Venice are associated with the spectacular carnivals that take place in the city, full of color, fantasy and decadent luxury. However, throughout history they have had other functions, such as maintaining privacy when using the service.
Hyotokko and Tengu masks for sale at a souvenir shop on Nakamise Street in front of Sensoji Temple in Asakusa.
Hyotokko, the large mask on the left, is a traditional comic folk character that is used in dances and festivals in various places throughout Japan. He is sometimes described as a fire god or the son of a fire god that can produce gold coins out of his belly button.
Tengu, the masks with the long nose, are considered "yokai" or supernatural beings. In Japanese literature, he has been depicted at various times as a human, a bird, or a monkey. Although once considered an evil character, he is now considered a protector of the forest.

Ecclesiastes 5:6
Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, “My vow was a mistake.” Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands?

"life with a mask - the students"
(last of the polaroid series)
first, i want to give a massive and warm-felt thanks to all my students who posed in their annoying and restrictive masks.
we now have to wear these damn things indoors at all times on campus. while they are highly protective they are still a daily nuisance.
you may see a student smile here and there in the photos, but that's because of their warmth and wonderful personality. it is surely not because we're happy to wear a mask...they suck. but, here in taiwan, we'll take minor discomfort over getting sick.
again, a huge thanks to my amazing students.....xie xie!

Not the sort of mask we've become accustomed to :)))
We had lunch out, again, today, and this was part of the restaurant decor.
Following [https://www.flickr.com/photos/14816146@N04/] and [https://www.flickr.com/photos/phantomterror/]'s remarks, I've made some changes to my mask adapter.
This is my custom Ewan McGregor's Black Mask from Birds of Prey, who I made some time ago but recently I finally got the torso and legs I really wanted to use. This is actually based off of a figure I made for one of my universes for an organization who's members used skull masks to conceal their identities and I realized he looked a lot like Ewan McGregor's Black Mask. The original figure is up on my photo stream for anyone who's interested.
