Opened in 1955 in the Park Forest Plaza. This was the first Marshall Field's to open in a shopping mall.
Unfortunately, the interior was gutted before work began on demolishing the exterior. Not much to look at in there!

This is the famous clock at the corner of State and Washington on Marshall Field's flagship store. It is one of Chicago's best-loved landmarks. "Meet me under the clock" was a favorite saying of Chicagoans and perhaps still is.

Built as the Field Building and opening in 1934, this art deco masterpiece was the last skyscraper built in Chicago before the Great Depression hit.
The building's namesake and main financier, Marshall Field, would never occupy the site due to the economic downfall.
This is also the former site the Home Insurance Building, considered to be the world's first "skyscraper."

From the Chicago Encyclopedia entry on Department Stores in Chicago:

Wow great clock! There seemed to be a lot of street protests over Marshall Field's (a verable Chicago company) being taken over by Macy's. I saw people getting signatures of support to restart the firm.. sounded like a passionate issue in the city.

Not as famous or as big as the clock in downtown Chicago, but still attractive. This clock is on the former Marshall Field store in Oak Park. There is an identical clock on the old store in Evanston

"The evolution of the Walnut Room on State Street in Chicago began when a member of our millinery department brought homemade pot pies for her clients so they would not go hungry while shopping. A few years later, her pies became the central offering of the tea room. Demand called for more space, and in the late 1890s the very first restaurant in a department store was opened. The Walnut Room, the grande dame of our seventh-floor restaurants, soon grew to 17,000 square feet, with Circassian wood imported from Russia and Austrian chandeliers contributing to its elegance and comfort." ~ Marshall Field's (Now Macy's) On State Street, Chicago

Feeling a little Sassy today in my new green shoes and vintage purse.
I said I wouldn't cheat with this project and resort to random body shots instead of true Self Portraits....but they are my rules, so I guess I'm allowed to change them if I want.

The grand atrium at marshall fields' flagship store. Yes, in 2004, it was still Fields.
To it's credit, Macy's has maintained almost all of Fields' Christmas traditions including the decorations you see here, the decorations along State Street, the Christmas display windows, and the large Christmas tree in the Walnut Room.
Each year, the downtown Minneapolis Macy's (formerly Marshall Field's and Dayton's) has put on a tremendous Christmas display on the 8th floor. Every year is a different them. The 2006 theme was The Mary Poppins. I suggest going early, and getting a gingerbread cookie upon exiting.
