living it up to die in a blink of the public eye.
Day-glo paint on an electric chair. Electric dye in her lover's hair. A pretty light in the middle of the night. Made up for everyone to see. Swingin' on the branch of a broken family tree.
You got a lot of livin' to do with that life.
The village idiots in her bed never cared that her eyes were red - never cared that her brain was dead. In the hours that her face was alive it was a thing just to be by her side.

The only remaining First World War Mark I tank in existence is on display in Bovington Tank Museum, Dorset.
It went into service in 1916 and saw action in the battle of the Somme.

I haven't been able to date it or trace the foundry mark beyond finding an undated german christmas tree stand with the same mark. If anyone has any other knowledge, I'd be grateful. this is the mark on the underside of the lid. the same mark (including the number 10) appears on the bottom of the pot. looks like C(crossed hammers)H.
Seniors got their chance to 'leave their mark' by burning their name in the bookcases and doors in the basement of the President's House during senior week.

While I was photographing Wayne, my Stranger #186, and as his friend was excusing himself and promising I could photograph him another time soon, this man appeared on the coffee shop patio and was obviously a friend of the other two. When I finished photographing Wayne I asked this fellow if he would like to participate in my project and he said “Sure.”
Meet Mark who asked where I wanted to position him and since I didn’t want to repeat the background used with Wayne, I suggested we step over a couple of meters and use the grey stucco wall of the coffee shop. I had a bit of trouble keeping a power cable out of the frame and my initial positioning was just as the sun peeked out and brightly illuminated one of his ears. This is the kind of thing I didn’t notice in the past until I looked at the image on my computer but at this point I can recognize some (but not all) of the problems in time to deal with them. I explained my issue with the bright light and he said “How about if I take a step over here so that telephone pole will cast a bit of shade?” How’s that for cooperative - a Stranger who solves the problems for me!
Mark is (believe it or not) 39 and works as a freelance “grip” in the film industry. He explained that he gets hired to expedite things at film shoots by moving equipment, setting up lights, handling diffusers, and generally doing a wide range of tasks on the set or location. Now things fell into place and I realized why he was so adept at helping me deal with the light issue.
We talked a bit about his work and he said that his job is hard on relationships because of the irregular hours and long shifts punctuated by periods of no work at all. He said he is single but has experienced this problem in relationships and told me that many of his friends in the business are separated or divorced. He clearly loves the work, though, and enjoys being around moviemaking and finds the variety keeps him interested. He was a very nice fellow and was clearly tuned in to photography and what I am doing with my project.

Tonight at the Chester Literature Festival it was a little different because tonight’s event was a Poetry Pub Crawl. I was joined by two stand-up poets – and stand-up guys – Tim Clare and Mark Grist on a tour of some of Chester’s cosiest pubs including the Ship Inn, The Cross Keys, Bear and Billet and finally The Falcon.

Das Schloss, dessen Bau 1711 begonnen worden war, diente im Lauf seiner Geschichte verschiedenen Zwecken. Kurz vor Ausbruch des 2. Weltkrieges waren noch Arbeiten zum Umbau in eine Polizeischule begonnen worden. Den Weltkrieg überstand das Gebäude relativ unbeschadet. 1956 begann die Stadt, das Schloss wieder nutzbar zu machen. Für den Umbau wurde zunächst das Dach entfernt. Aber 1958 wurde von höherer Instanz die politische Entscheidung getroffen, die Arbeiten einzustellen. Ohne Dach Wind und Wetter ausgesetzt verfiel der Bau zusehends. Von 2000 bis 2005 wurden Sicherungsmaßnahmen durchgeführt, die einen weiteren Verfall verhindern, ein Wiederaufbau ist nicht vorgesehen.
The Palace, the building of which started in 1711, served different purposes along its history. Shortly before the outbreak of World War II adaption works had been initiated for transforming it into a Police Academy. The building had suffered little damage during the war, aind in 1956 the city administration began to adapt it to new uses. This required dismantling the roof. But in 1958 a higher authority decided for political reasons that all works had to be cancelled although the Palace still was lacking a roof. Exposed to wind and rain, the building entered rapidly into decay and ruin. From 2000 to 2005 conservation works were realized to prevent further decay, but there are no plans for a reconstruction.
