Hesperocharis marchalii (Marchal's White)

 

Hesperocharis marchalii is a butterfly that lives in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. This butterfly is found in tropical rain forests between 1800-2400 meters.

 

Taken in La Ceja, Colombia; Central Andes; 2.300 meters above sea level.

On this very windy afternoon I hiked my favorite area, watching the big clouds roll over my head. It was about 38 degrees, winds gusting from the northwest over 40 mph, and amazing cloud drama!

 

I have taken many photos in this area over the years, but each season, time of day and weather provides another opportunity! :)

Reconnu comme l’un des dix plus beaux immeubles patrimoniaux au Canada, le Marché Bonsecours est un incontournable dans le Vieux-Montréal.

 

Sous le régime français et après la Conquête, le site du Marché était au cœur de la vie sociale et culturelle de Montréal. John Molson, père et fils, pionniers de la navigation à vapeur sur le Saint-Laurent, ont été propriétaires du site de 1815 et 1844 et y ont aménagé un quai pour leurs navires.

 

L’actuel marché, inauguré en 1847 à titre de marché fermier, a été le principal marché public de Montréal et le lieu de rencontre des gens de la ville et des producteurs agricoles pendant plus d'une centaine d'années. Cet immeuble imposant qui symbolisait la prospérité de Montréal a abrité une salle de concert et a même servi d’Hôtel de Ville. Sa composition symétrique, son portique dorique, dont les colonnes de fonte furent coulées en Angleterre et son dôme argenté illustrent l’inspiration néo-classique en vogue à l’époque.
