A very quick pencil and watercolour sketch.

I loved the colours in this very dry maple leaf.

I want to try this again.

"Come said the wind to

the leaves one day,

Come o're the meadows

and we will play.

Put on your dresses

orange and gold,

For summer is gone

and the days grow cold."

- A Children's Song of the 1880's

Not quite the shade of red that one equates to our national flag, but close enough!

We got these nifty headlamps for walking the dog at night - here's a maple leaf caught in the beam.

I've been looking for a maple leaf of a different look with various shades in colours on a tree. It seemed harder than I thought, not to mention the massive attack of black spots disease here for years. Possibly it might end up finding out nothing if I still keep searching...

The day before spring actually begins in the northern hemisphere, I found four or five small frogs singing to each other as they floated on the surface of a small pond. Vernal equinox is officially today!

Kankakee County, Illinois, is covered with barn quilts! Starting fall of 2008, visitors to Kankakee County, Illinois began seeing decorative quilt blocks on historic barns and corncribs around the county. This county-wide project continues to showcase our rural heritage summer with more quilt blocks added each subsequent year. Barn Quilt #50 was hung in 2012.

Take a self-guided tour of well preserved barns adorned with a beautifully hand painted classic quilt block. The 1st Barn Quilt of 2010, "Rhubarb Pie" was placed at Kankakee County Museum, with ribbon cutting ceremonies, held during the 20th Annual Rhubarb Festival on May 16, 2010. View the "Rhurbarb Pie" Video on YouTube celebrating the 1st Barn Quilt of 2010 at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VU3qXExs9Y. Quilt blocks remain in place year round so you can always find a convenient time to visit. 2010 Barn Quilts of Kankakee County are featured in the YouTube video www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLEKwYykSrI. side note: I've had several shots make explore... this is the first one that is in explore that makes sense to me.

I swear, that red maple leaf was not posed. =P

Cold nights of autumn paint maple leaves full of color. I think they are the most beautiful leaves out there.

Most of the specimens in this university botanical garden were gathered in the wild, which makes the collection quite special.
