Manual focus and exposure, using window light, no photo shop except slight contrast tweak.
Wanted to show the detail in the foreground and the curves of the shadow on the stamen, leading the eye from the left.
On March 8, 2018, UPS delivered a package from Leica Store Miami containing the M (Typ 262) digital camera, Summarit-M 50mm f/2.4 lens, limited-edition Oberwerth bag, and two SD card holders—one black, the other cognac. My main interest is the rangefinder and 50mm glass. I am tempted to sell the bag to further bring down my costs, being its a collector's thing now.
The Oberwerth Set, if you can still find it, is entry into the M system for essentially the lens free with cost of the camera. The Miami shop sent the last kit available, at least presently.
With no immediate plans to part with my beloved Leica Q, I will expand my photographic horizons by reducing technology. While the M262 is full frame, the camera also is in many respects no frills. There is no autofocus, live view, wired ports, or wireless connectivity. I’ll be screwing off the bottom plate to remove the storage card to transfer photos to my MacBook Pro. The menu system is two main pages plus one. The M262 is all about manual settings from dials, except ISO, which I typically leave on auto anyway.
Someone correct me if mistaken. Rangefinder photography is all about precision: Manual focus and composition. For both, particularly the focusing mechanism, I will need to practice.
Over the past couple weeks, I read M262 reviews from professionals and owners, and the consensus is fewer features mean less distractions and more attention to the main purpose: photography. Sometime soon, I will share sentiments of my own. We shall see if I agree with the assessment or decide that less really is less.
I'm not used to manual focus lenses, but this 85mm was really a good performer!! (here the shot is a little cropped + some contrast and sharpen in camera raw).
For some reason the camera (D200) see a 105mm f/5.6 but I ensure you that it was an 85mm set at f/2.0 for this shot. View On Black
I picked up a pair of old manual-focus Yashica lenses yesterday for $10 from a gal up in Oakland, NE. The ML 50mm f/2 lens on the left is almost the smallest lens I own (that will fit on my EOS bodies, anyway). The Oly 50/1.8 on the right is just a hair shorter. Both lenses are pictured wearing their EOS adapters.
This shot was lit with a Canon 430EX in an overhead DIY 8x10" softbox feathered toward the background. Two white sheets of paper stood upright at each side of the lenses to fill in the sides. The surface/background is a white bedsheet.
