I won't have my Christmas tree up for another week or two. I was going to drape a string of lights over a chair, but came across a Christmas tree at my church. The clear lights are a bonus for me, as my lights at home are colored.

Nikon D200 I Samyang 85mm f1,4 MF

Shot with Super-Multi-Coated Macro-Takumar 50mm f1.4. on Fuji X-T2. A 50 year old lens.

Captured with a Sigma 90mm 1:2.8 manual focus @ f/4.

This Sigma was a huge surprise for me. It performs so damn well even wide open: There is hardly any vignetting, colours are saturated, contrast is fine and it is very sharp. I would put it on par with the legendary Minolta 100mm 1:4 Macro, which is a little bit sharper but offers one aperture step less and shows more vignetting wide open.

Available light, on tripod

Trying my new tripod, it's very helpful for these kind of very low angle shots!

It took me about eight months to decide how to post process this photo. It was truly spectacular scenery in person, at blue hour just when it was about to get very dark. It was also below freezing and super slippery which made the whole experience quite arduous. Yet the RAW long exposure simply did not capture the mood.

I played a lot with different layers and effects in Photoshop and this is the final result. That's how I remember it today.

Interesting note that the image is level. It is most of the trees that are leaning one way as a result of winds over time.

weekly theme of #SmileOnSaturday - June 16th, 2018: #HatsAndCo

seen on Mainau Island, Lake Constance (South Germany):

a display of sun hats with colourful ribbons and bows - but on this day you were in dire need of a rain jacket (or a strong, storm-proof umbrella) rather than a sun hat!

A relaxed day, nonetheless ... bridging the time of rain showers and thunderstorm with lots of coffee and tea : ))

Für das Thema "Hüte und Co." der Gruppe "Smile on Saturday"

The Pocklington end of the Pocklington to Melbourne Canal in East Yorkshire, UK. The canal is more navigable from the Melbourne end, near York and there is just a short stretch of water here before it gives way to weed and reed for a good distance before opening up to free flowing water. This was taken on a late afternoon stroll along the canal path back in March and I was taken by the beautiful willow tree reflected in the canal. It was shot on expired film (Kodak Tmax 100 ASA b&w neg., process before 02 1998!) using a Nikon F301 35mm SLR, with a Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 AI super-wideangle manual focus lens and I used an orange filter to enhance contrast in the sky, as well as helping the willow branches to stand out nicely. The film was hand processed using Ilfotec-DDX developer at native 100 ASA and I used some excellent Ilfotol rinse aid in the final wash, leaving virtually no watermarks or dust on the negatives to have to spot out after digitisation. I used a Plustek 8200Ai film scanner to digitise the negs to DNG raw files and Capture One Pro 23 to do the post processing.

my compostion shows a leaf that reflects on its back the sun directly. The camera in the hand almost on the floor. With live-view on a flash shoe mounted tablet I composed the view angle and the focus. Composition is an art of try and error. Only centimeters of camera movement can change the spirit. So the leaves only shones in this saturated orange from a certain angle. The lens I usually fixed on manual focus on near distance. I prefere focusing with changing the distance between camera and object.

Shot with my new wonderful Voigtländer Color Skopar 20mm F3.5 SL II lens.
