Seen at Lankan Manta Point

From the moment I started to dive (years ago...) I loved mantas. And I still get exited when I see these gentle giants.

These two seem to be dancing together.

I made this manta ray prop for a production of "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and living in Paris" at the Street Theatre, Canberra in 2009.

The manta ray is the largest species of the rays. The largest known specimen was more than 7.6 metres (25 ft) across, with a weight of about 1,300 kilograms (2,900 lb). It ranges throughout tropical waters of the world, typically around coral reefs. They have the largest brain-to-body ratio of the sharks, rays and skates.

Sadly not taken with an underwater camera, this ray lives in an enormous tank at the Lisbon Oceanário

Researchers can identify manta rays by their unique underside markings. More than 60 individuals have been added to the catalog of mantas that have been spotted at this "hot spot" for marine life in the Gulf of Mexico - Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. Photo Credit: G.P. Schmahl/NOAA

November 24, 2014 at Georgia Aquarium: Cassandra, the last living human being, seems to have a new gig ... she appears often in the Big Tank. Only fans of Doctor Who will get this!

But this guy, at his 3+ meters, turned out to be "small" compared to the one we swam with later on...
