Little Manitou Lake is an inland saltwater lake. The really cool thing about this lake is that the water has a specific gravity of 1.06. This translates to a unique, impossible-to-sink buoyancy, so that even the most inept swimmers can float on this lake.

Outside the builders had a lifter to help bring heavy materials onto the outside of the scaffolding.

This steam engine is being revived to handle special trains at the Manitou and Pike's Peak Railway. Taken in 2012 September, this was a test run with a vintage coach.

 

The photograph is a "stitch" of two views and that accounts for the non-linear distortion.

 

Because the water tanks on the mountain are now missing, the steam-powered runs will likely not reach the summit.
