The Manitou Island ferries wait out the winter here, in the harbor at Leland, Michigan. During the summer, adventurers use the ferries to access the remote and rugged Manitou Islands just off the coast of northern Michigan.

Shopping in Manitou Springs

The Southwest shoreline of South Manitou is typically very difficult to hike because there are areas where the waves crash right up against foliage that is too thick and mosquito infested to bushwhack. This year, the water is low enough that you can hike the beach all the way along the shore.
