This mangled porch railing and cement porch beneath it had more survival skills than the house they used to be attached to. Site is the lower 9th Ward in New Orleans. The large industrial structure rising up in the middle of the image above the trees is the drawbridge portion of the Claiborne Bridge spanning the Industrial Canal. The levee bordering the east side of this Canal broke in the morning hours of August 29, 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina and swept this home and its neighboring structures off its foundations.
